What does the NCAA really have on them? I would think that if they had a solid case they would have contacted the Big Ten and the penalties would have started as soon as The Game was over.

I can't believe they aren't under intense pressure from CFP and TV mogols (probably the same folks, just different titles) to share what they know.

The media has dropped the issue, or turned it into a virtue. The NCAA may do about as much as they did to UNC, which is to say, nothing.

If they beat Alabama - not impossible - they won't have any problems in the portal and the few recruits won't be 3 stars from NE prep schools.

Money, Facilities, Strong Alum Group, they won't suffer as much as we hope they will

If the NCAA/CFP/et al that make up the powers that be for major college football take a page out of the NFL's book, they could very well sweep this under the rug so they don't have the legitimacy of the sport for the past 2-3 years laid bare for the world to question.

When the NFL was given video evidence of their darling Patriots cheating along these same lines, the evidence was somehow destroyed. Read into that what you will.

Given that the Feds and local law enforcement are involved I find it hard to believe it can get "swept under the rug". But given who we're dealing with I guess anything could happen ....

They apparently have enough that Santa Ono did the only athletic thing in his life and ran out of that TRO hearing at top speed. Plus, keep in mind that Simple Jim has already lied to them and refused to cooperate over the first investigation. Then when they came to town this time around, they were told that all the coaches were unavailable to be interviewed because they were off recruiting...on a Friday. In all of this, the university President has shown no leadership or control and simply backed the football program to the hilt. I can't see them letting this die down, and unlike UNC, this directly affected the integrity of the games. Their take on UNC was that it was an academic scandal and not an athletic one.

If they have a post-season ban and scholarship reductions, they're dead in the water. You won't get good talent either from recruiting or the portal if you're not eligible for the playoff while about 20 other programs go into the year with a legitimate chance.

I hope you’re right.

I hope not but the FBI had half of the NCAA's head basketball coaches on wire taps talking about paying players (when you couldn't do that) and the NCAA did fuck all.

Just curious .... were there any laws broken in the above situation ? I'm sure the IRS was interested, but any real laws ??

Bribing people is against the law but I can't tell you anymore than that. I'm not a lawyer.

Bribery was the reason for the FBI probe into shoe company officials iirc.

EDIT

disregard what I said, Heisman's link covers it much better

My worry isn't the ncaa burying this; it's that the networks will. They seem to be petrified of any discussion of the actual games being tainted and compromised. It's beyond coincidence that nobody from espn to fox to the btn will even touch the subject. Childers did once and hasn't mentioned it again. Wonder what kind of phone call he got afterwards.

Today, Spin Pass is the invisible man. For all the talk about the Heisman finalists, not a soul is saying, "gee how did McCarthy go from front runner to a barely capable game manager without Stalions?"

Fox was pretty much going out of their way to paint Michigan in only positive light during the run up the the game, especially on the kickoff show. I'm sure it will only continue, and it's sickening.

We won't hear anything before the end of the season, regardless if michigan gets curb stomped by Alabama in round 1. Heck, even if we had won The Game this year it would probably still be the same.

I am still pulling for Lack of Institutional Control.
