2022 tOSU Defense

Team defensive rankings as of today, after 7 games:

Total defense - #2 in the NCAA, 239.9 ypg

Scoring defense- #5 in the NCAA, 14.86 ppg

Rushing defense - #8 allowing 90.9 ypg; #6 with 2.85 yards per carry

Pass defense - #10 in pass defense efficiency at 108.76, #3 in yards per game at 149.0

First downs allowed - #1 with 83 total, also #1 with 11.86 per game

Third down conversions allowed - #2 with 24.5%

Fourth down conversions allowed - #6(tie) with 25.0%

Tackles for loss - #13 at 7.3 per game

Sacks - #28(tie) with 2.71 per game

That’s currently a top-5 defense in the major categories, the other teams that are also top-5 in those categories are Illinois, Georgia, and TTUN.

It’s great to have a defense that gets a stop on 75% of 3rd and 4th downs. Thank you, Coach Knowles.

Awesome stats. Now, do them only counting about the first 3 quarters of the game before our freshmen and 3rd stringers are all over the field because the Top 5 Offense has given them a 30 point lead. Cheers

Impossible to key on players like that which makes this Defense that much better. If TTUN doesn't figure out how to pass before Thanksgiving, they're going to get their shit pushed in

You have to love that this defense is forcing a ton of turnovers right now that's for sure. That said, I thought we weren't very strong stopping the run (particularly on 1st down), missed a lot of tackles and we gave up a boat load of yard throwing too. Even with that I think this defense is positioned pretty well make a big time difference down the stretch.

I agree with above post all most word for word.

Turnovers are coming in bunches.
But you can’t count on them.
Hell the first 4 games we were near last in the country.

I thought this was our worst tackling game.
Even Tommy who had 15 tackles had a couple of key missses.
The first TD was the result of shoddy tackling.

Excited about the D but we need to shore that up post haste.

Yep, being on the field for 81 defensive snaps is something I hope we don’t see again this season.

Penn State was getting 4 yards every first down... thats probably what concerns me most about our defense going into November.

Have got to win 1st down to give our pass rush to make a difference on third down.

Hard to force INTs if teams don't have to throw the ball.
