I think more of the problem is something on O and D seem to catch them off gaurd every game. They get adjusted at halftime if not sooner. But why are they caught off guard so often. Wildcat cool? But you should have expected them to run a bijallion times Saturday

Could it be that Knowles would rather see his defense take calculated risks? Seems to me that he's encouraging being aggressive knowing that you sometimes get burned. Makes sense when you consider that he's coached defense at two schools that can score quickly. So we gave up a score. We'll get it right back and the next time that same risk will pay off in a big way.

On the Offensive side, I think Day is just needlessly stubborn sometimes and wants to take what he wants instead of what he's given.

On the Defensive side, I think Knowles is just a smart guy who knows that percentage wise, given the number of plays in a game, it's unlikely you're going to win EVERY play. If you go into the game accepting you might give up 3-5 big plays, I think it keeps those big plays from affecting your players as much mentally. If you expect absolute perfection, one blown play can spiral into absolute disaster. He's setting the tone in advance that they're going to take chances, not all will work, some will result in big plays, just get back up and do it better next time.

There's also the fact, on both sides of the ball, that we're Ohio State. Most weeks, people are bringing every tool in the box to try to beat us and sometimes that means we get looks that weren't on tape or weren't run enough to be a primary concern going into the game. If Iowa comes into a game running a different standard D than they have been most of the year, it's going to take a bit of time to adjust.

Given the mess Knowles inherited and the injuries at corner all year, I don't think anyone could reasonably ask any more of Knowles or the defense. It's been an insane turnaround for what hasn't even been a full year yet.

Where have all the sacks gone?

Ohio State used to be one of the most dominant pass rushing teams in the country, but recent years show this is not the case anymore.

Sacks can be a deceiving and overrated. The single person stats leaders were from USC and EMU, and the team sacks leaders were Pitt and Louisville.
Disrupting the QB is more important and its a stat not really kept. I rather have the DL force the QB into uncomfortable situations than solely focus on sacks. Throwing the QB off rhythm is more important and can cause turnovers from the back 7.
OSU had more sacks than UGA, but no one would think that OSU had the better DL or even defense as a whole.
