2022 Rose Bowl, tOSU vs Utah, Jan 1st @ 5pm EST, ESPN

I know this will be unpopular but I couldn't care less for the Rose Bowl after losing to TTUN. I am sure the older members will give me a good scolding about how it's the Grandaddy of them all but meh.

Man, I'm the same. I grew up on the prestige of the Rose Bowl, and I think it's awesome still. The fact is we lost The Game and the give a shit factor goes down a lot. I tried to explain to my non-Buckeye fan friends that the reason I'm not excited about this game (yet) is that we lost to ttun. If we hadn't lost to ttun, I would be singing a different tune. I know, or at least hope, the team doesn't feel the same. And when game day comes, I'll be up for it. Hell, I might go to the game. But right now I just don't really care.

My biggest question about this game doesnt revolve around what happens on the field.

Is 'ute' just the past tense of 'yeet'...?

I was just talking to a friend, and he asked was I disappointed we didn't make the CFP, and if I was excited about the Rose Bowl. I told him none of that mattered. We lost The Game. Nothing would matter until we had a chance to redeem ourselves against them. He asked wouldn't it have made up for it if we had made the CFP? I told him no, winning The Game is the first goal. Making and winning the CFP are third and fourth goals. Winning the B1G is the second. He was amazed. He asked if winning the natty wouldn't have made up for losing The Game. I told him no, nothing makes up for that. It will hurt for the next 50 weeks. He is deeply into sports, and sports rivalries. He had no idea the hate ran this deep. I told him there is a reason they call it The Game.
I also told him between now and December 31 I am the biggest Dawg fan he will find.

Outsiders just don't understand and they can't from the outside. I haven't slept worth a shit since Thanksgiving.
I remember hearing an interview with Keels on the radio back in the day. If everyone remembers, Mike Belloti was the hot shit name in coaching once upon a time, and like everywhere else OSU was looking at him. Anyway Keels said he remembered the moment he know Belloti would never get the job…it was when he directly compared The Game to beating Oregon State in the Civil War.

Outsiders will never get it.

Truth. Hard to get up for work when I’m dead inside. Push it down, push it down, die inside, push it down. Rinse, repeat.

Won’t stop eating at my soul. Didn’t watch the Oregon game with Utah. I did tune in for Indy and it just made it worse. Even the introductions made me want to walk out in traffic. Now I have to pull for GA. Going to be a lot of booze flowing this holiday. Apologies to my family in advance… get me one of those Grinch mugs and call it a wrap.

Those random deep sighs that crush your spirit have me on some serious Bah Humbug, but I’m trying…

I'm going to say this: No one, NO FUCKING ONE, hates dUMb more than me. Not Jax, not Telekinesis, not even Woody Hayes. I actually, literally have to restrain myself from saying "Fuck Michigan" any time I see a piss and blue hat, shirt, flag, what have you. In a store, on the street, wherever.

BUT. Everyone from the players, coaches and fans need to understand that sometimes you lose, it wouldn't be a rivalry if they won every game. They aren't rivals with Northwestern, Indiana or Minnesota, are they? That's not to say I"m over the loss. I sure as hell am not yet, but getting a bid to the Rose Bowl goes a long damned way to doing that.

The Rose Bowl is the greatest bowl game there is. It's not a "consolation" prize, OSU earned it with a damned fine year. They are young and talented. Some of the most important players, Stroud and Olave in particular, will be playing in their home state. If these players can't get up for a game to represent themselves, their teammates, their university and their state then that would be very disappointing.

Sorry for this rambling post, but as I am from a time where the Rose Bowl was THE goal. I am very excited and happy that the Bucks will be playing in the Granddaddy of Them All.

Go Buckeyes! Beat Utah!

Strange times we live in when I see 10-2 and a Rose Bowl berth as a "failed" season by many fans/alumni.

I also see a large segment of the base saying the Rose Bowl is a "worthless" game because it isn't for a championship and half our players should sit.

That attitude isn't something I can wrap my head around. It's history and prestige, it would be like setting foot in Lambeau. I'm not going to miss that opportunity. The current mindset of "If it isn't for 1st place I don't want it" is bullshit that has a familiar association with many topics of our time. I just see it bleeding over into football now and I don't like it.

Even worse, I never thought I'd see players skip the Rose Bowl in favor of preparing for the draft. I understand a man has to go his own way at times, but what about the team? Your team? Imagine had Kurt Coleman, Thaddeus Gibson, or Cam Heyward (if he was considering opting out) not being apart of that 09-10 game?!?

At some point I question how far we've gone into the business and brand aspect and not just appreciating and enjoying football game by game; while acknowledging how fleeting and precious ours seasons are.

Edit: And we've come to hear for years about SEC teams having excuses for underperforming in bowl games that aren't championship related. Or, another recent one I've noticed, had our game vs scUM been in better weather conditions we would have gotten the passing game going.

Don't be (the bulk) of SEC fans, and more importantly let's not forget that our fan base just a decade ago was chastising SEC offenses for performing so well on offense because of favorable weather conditions the B1G isn't afforded.

OT
Apologize, but am trying to learn the elementary X’s and O’s. Any books you’d recommend for that? Thanks.

Funny enough, depending on how far you're willing to go back in time, I might be able to double check the closet and see what I can dust off.

From my perspective...
IF the Buckeyes had been 10-2 with a win against TTUN, then I would be much more interested in the Rose Bowl.
My apathy doesn't have to do with the Rose Bowl directly as much as the outcome in November.
If the Buckeyes win in Pasadena, then I hope it's a launching point into next season with the glaring issues being addressed.
If they lose, then I hope that the glaring issues are addressed heading into next season.
