2022 College Football Polls

Kentucky got propped up by Beating a Florida team that got way over ranked after surviving Utah in week 1 at home.

The SEC teams always get a higher boost for winning such games and a lower drop for losing such games. In the end that's how you end up with a team like Kentucky in the top 10.

Now a Ole Miss team, who scrapped by Tulsa by 8 points and looked sluggish against Troy, will catapult into the top 10 if they beat Kentucky, while Kentucky will only drop like 3-4 spots if they lose that game.

Kansas
* 4-0
* Ws over Tenn Tech, @ WVU, @ Houston, Duke
* Unranked

Ole Miss
* 4-0
* Ws over Troy, Central Arkansas, @ Georgia Tech, Tulsa
* Ranked 14

Big S-E-C ranked match up this week between #14 Ole Miss and #7 Kentucky. When both flail around like a couple of inbred morons, it will be because both teams are elite. One will be ranked top 10, the other will be no lower than 17. Then Bama will get a nice little bump from beating them both.
Ohio State will probably be #3 and it's completely irrelevant.
The above is why it's not irrelevant anymore. This bullshit needs to stop. It's why LSU stole our 1 seed in 2019 and forced us to bash our brains into a wall against Clemson while they had a nice medium paced jog against Oklahoma. I really would've liked to have seen what a nicely rested Ohio State does to whoever survived LSU/Clemson. But LSU beat a team that beat a team that beat a team that was once ranked #6 in week 5 or some SEC bullshit, so they jump us at the end. It's not irrelevant anymore.

The AP and the Coaches poll are still irrelevant. Look back at 2015, Ohio State was #1 in the AP all year, until the playoff rankings came out had had us #3. The week after, the AP dropped us to #2.

And, even within the playoff rankings, being #2 or #3 is irrelevant. It's the drop from #1 to #2 or #3 to #4 that matters.

Texas A&M lost AT HOME to a now 2-2 Appalachian State yet is ranked 4 spots ahead of undefeated Minnesota. They are right back in the thick of things less than a month after that App State loss. Because "THEY BEAT MIAMI!" - The team that got blown out at home by MTSU and "THEY BEAT ARKANSAS!" the same team who struggled to surge late to beat FCS Missouri State and will probably get their teeth kicked in by Bama this week.

Could any team from any other conference do the same thing and be afforded such the same leniency?

It's been proven over and over that the first loss basically doesn't count for SEC teams, even when it's against some schlub like App State.

It's all about "THEY BEAT THIS TEAM!!!" they never talk about who the SEC team lost to. It's like the losses don't exist.
And that stuff is never used for any other conference. We beat Wisconsin...that just means Wisconsin sucks. But holy fuck had Wisconsin beaten us? The entire B1G would drop.

Exactly. Wisconsin probably isn't very great this year, but if they were a SEC school and Bama waxed them it would be called a "great display of dominance against a tough foe!"

College football rankings: Ohio State rises, Oklahoma falls in CBS Sports 131 entering Week 5

2. OHIO STATE (4-0, LW 3)

Ohio State is transforming into something terrifying. Ohio State’s passing game is explosive. The Ohio State rushing attack is a big-play machine waiting to happen. The defense is nasty and only getting better. Wisconsin was no match for the Buckeyes in the 52-21 romp.

“I think you can see what this team is made of,” Day said, via Bucknuts. I think we’ve shown in the first four games what we can do, what we’re capable of. The big challenge in college football is you have to bring it every week and that’s the competitive standard we’ve been talking about. Every single week you have to bring it.”
