2022 College Football Polls

This rides on Clemson and USC.

They'd put a 1 loss Bama/UGA whos only loss was to the other at #3 over even a undefeated UCLA/Okie State/TCU and give them to the winner as the "layup" 1/4 game.

The difference between playing a fucking UCLA type team in the semi-final and playing Bama/UGA is so huge.

(This scenario assumes Ohio State is undefeated as well)
If tOSU is undefeated, and Bama and UGA each have a loss, they’d search real hard to put somebody ahead of the SEC CCG loser to avoid the immediate SEC rematch.

True, but Ohio State isn't jumping to #1 unless they do both lose a game.

It would suck to finally get the #1 seed, just to get saddled with the SEC title game loser in round #1 while the #2 seed gets the "layup game" because the committee didnt want a rematch in the semi-final.

It would be nice if Clemson and a Pac 12 or Big 12 team could run the table. That way we don't have 2 SEC teams in again. (maybe)

If Ohio State continues to roll (particularly against pedsters and tsun) while Bama and UGA continue to have "tough wins," there's no way they can not seed Ohio State #1. That being said, I also agree that they will do everything possible to avoid and SEC semifinal, so we'd probably get Bama or UGA in the first game and have to play the other one in the second. It's a traveshamockery.

Problem is you get Bama and UGA playing each other in the SEC title game.

While Ohio State would get some schlubby B1G West team like Illinois or Purdue. Even if they were #1 before championship weekend, a undefeated winner of that SEC game is getting put ahead of them after, IMO.

That’s rather what happened in 2019, as I’m sure you recall. The Buckeyes were #1, had the shaky first half against Wiscy in the B1G CCG, and LSU beat Georgia 37-10 - and the committee rationalized that LSU had corrected their perceived weakness in pass defense, which was mainly due to UGA having only one healthy, skilled WR for about half of that game. Presto, LSU jumped to #1 in the final poll and avoided a tough Clemson team in the semifinal game.

Exactly. I was just going to say we saw this in 2019

And that Wisconsin team was ranked #8......Whoever the B1G West champ this year is not going to be a top 10 team.

Outside of beating whoever it may be with a completely dominating 60-0 type beating it will be spun that Ohio State "just was on cruise control against a layup team" in their Conference title game while UGA/Bama had to FINISH THEIR GAUNTLET AGAINST A TOP 5 TEAM!

I don't think Bama is beating Georgia this year. Georgia has had their struggles at times but they are quite a bit better than Bama (even with a healthy Young) as it stands right now

The best thing would be for Bama to lose in the regular season (come on Tennessee!) and then lose again to UGA in the SEC title game. Then we don't even have to debate about 2 SEC teams.

Of course then you could get Tennessee, beating Bama then losing a close game @Georgia but winning out besides that being pimped for the 4th spot in the end. Tennessee's other remaining opponents outside of Bama/UGA are UT Martin, Kentucky, Missouri, South Carolina & Vandy.

NIGHTMARE Scenario

Bama beats Tennessee

but Tennessee beats Georgia

Ole Miss beats Bama

You get a undefeated Ole Miss vs 1 loss Tennessee in the SEC title game.

Bama and UGA sit and wait with 1 loss.

This would create the biggest 24/7 push for a 3 (or even 4) SEC team playoff we have ever gotten.
