Already ripping into Harbrau about the QB crap. Saying one of the two (McCarthy/MacNamara) is gone after this year.

Paraphrasing:
- MacNamara is playing terrifically, having by far his best game, why bring in McCarthy as a different look. It's not like he's Lamar Jackson with his legs.
- In today's CFB world, you're dealing with parents/handlers of a QB as much as the kid.
- MacNamara's camp - "why are you subbing our boy out when he's playing the game of his life?"
- McCarthy's camp - "If we're wasting a year of eligibility this year, why were you running 70 times against WMU & NIU last month? Why wasn't J.J. in more to get more than a couple of throws in? Why are you subbing him in cold just to run some rinky-dink bullshit?"

The QB nonsense was just one aspect of a total systemic breakdown in a game that they had well within hand.

This is a really good question that the scUM media won't ask Harbrau. If he truly don't know who his QB is, why didn't he use one of the 7 glorified scrimmages to figure it out? If he knows McNamara is the guy, but wants to dangle just enough playing time in front of McCarthy to keep him from transferring, he might end up losing both of them.

This is the absolute stupidity in all of it.

WMU: 17 passes / 43 runs
Wash: 15 passes / 66 runs
NIU: 17 passes / 48 runs
Rutgers: 16 passes / 38 runs
Wisc: 30 passes / 43 runs
Corn: 39 passes / 42 runs
Nerds: 32 passes / 54 runs

Now...WMU, NIU and UW were all perfect opportunities to use the first 3 weeks to figure some stuff out. MacNamara has SO eligibilty, so why not throw more against teams with the game in hand to try to get a firmer grasp on his ceiling? If you're gonna piss away a year of eligibility on McCarthy anyway, why not give him a half with 10-12 throws to get him some experience and see if when the schedule gets tougher he's the guy you should go with? Against Rutgers, MacNamara played poorly, if you think McCarthy is your future, you're using a year anyway, why not give him the 2nd half? Wiscy was another chance to try to figure out what you have, instead they had MacNamara throw 30 balls to limited effectiveness. The game was in hand, no reason McCarthy couldn't throw for a few drives in the 4th Quarter. Same things against the Nerds. That game was well within hand, why not let McCarthy throw 8-10 passes in the 4th quarter.

Then, a worst case scenario unfolds where MacNamara has an incredible game against Sparty. AND, you throw McCarthy in their twice to run some fakakta read-option bullshit and he fumbles both times. At least if MacNamara pisses down his leg, you can say "okay, he's not the guy" in the loss and maybe go to McCarthy. Now, you have a SO who is suddenly playing pretty well and a 5* FR that you've just wasted a year of eligibility on and the guy ahead of him has a chance to pull away.

Just a horribly managed situation all around.

I love it when some dork cries "it's wrong to blame the refs!" then goes on to bitch about getting fucked by refs is the next sentence. There's an awful lot of that amongst the DFBIA and then tsun lollipop guild right now...
