Defensive end Mike Morris had a unique explanation for Michigan's Saturday 37-33 loss at Michigan State. Morris pointed towards the officiating as a decisive factor in the game, referencing a specific play late in the first half in which it looks like Michigan State quarterback Payton Thorne fumbled as the result of a strip sack. Wolverines edge rusher Aidan Hutchinson then recovered in the end zone for a touchdown.

The officials ruled, upon review, that Thorne’s knee was down before he lost the ball. Had the play stood, Michigan likely would have taken a 27-14 lead into halftime.

“It’s Michigan-Michigan State," Morris said. "It’s going to be left up to us, it’s not going to be left up to them. So they’re not going to call all the little ticky-tack stuff. They’re going to — I felt like the knee was up but it probably wasn’t. I knew it wasn’t going to go our way. It’s like when you’re an away team playing at home, it’s going to favor the home team more times than not.”

The intellect it must have taken to put those words together.

It looked like his knee was up but it probably wasn't.

Pretty damned ticky tacky.

His shin WAS down though. It doesn't necessarily have to be his knee.
DFBIA gonna DFBIA
Regardless of the details of the play, calling a turnover review and reversal “ticky tack” is the exact opposite of the proper use of that phrase and is pretty stupid all by itself.

Unless that he means applying the rules appropriately is ticky tack, which is also stupid?

Either way, I just want to jump in and highlight the stupidity of how he’s framing his own complaint.

It was a lot like the play near the goal line in the B1GCG with NW’ern in 2018. Instead of an apparent fumble recovery stopping a NW’ern drive, the shin was down just before the fumble and it was overturned to a first-and-goal for the Wildcats, who soon got the TD. A tough break for the Buckeyes, but a correct use of replay.

Every year a bunch of us say “the higher they rise, the harder they’ll fall” or something to that effect. It’s been, what, 5 years since they’ve risen this high? Truly enjoying this moment for all it’s worth, knowing how rare it has become… how much rarer it is becoming

Could be the last time for a while. We’ve all seen these next few New England Country-Day School recruiting classes. They’re going to be special.
