Defensive end Mike Morris had a unique explanation for Michigan's Saturday 37-33 loss at Michigan State. Morris pointed towards the officiating as a decisive factor in the game, referencing a specific play late in the first half in which it looks like Michigan State quarterback Payton Thorne fumbled as the result of a strip sack. Wolverines edge rusher Aidan Hutchinson then recovered in the end zone for a touchdown.
The officials ruled, upon review, that Thorne’s knee was down before he lost the ball. Had the play stood, Michigan likely would have taken a 27-14 lead into halftime.
“It’s Michigan-Michigan State," Morris said. "It’s going to be left up to us, it’s not going to be left up to them. So they’re not going to call all the little ticky-tack stuff. They’re going to — I felt like the knee was up but it probably wasn’t. I knew it wasn’t going to go our way. It’s like when you’re an away team playing at home, it’s going to favor the home team more times than not.”
Isn't this the same player who tried to choke out MSU's running back later in the game? For some reason, it wasn't called, but should have been a 15 yarder and ejection and/or suspension IMO. Guess the home field team doesn't catch all the breaks, do they?
