I’d keep Larry but why has he been hyping Harrison every time he can for two years. He didn’t praise the Bosa’s as much as Harrison.
It goes with coaching/managing, everyone needs different type of motivation. Maybe Harrison needs praise. Where the Bosa's didn't. I'm just guessing here as someone who's managed people. I could be wrong though

I was one of the people okay with giving a mulligan for last year. I didn't think it was fair to judge based on one disjointed season, but I always said this is a "prove it" year. Well, they didn't prove it. Yes, they had some good games and performed better once some roles/duties were shifted around, but today exposed the same glaring issues again.

I'm also curious about so many people's rationale for keeping LJ. His unit has underachieved more than any other given the way he's recruited. I'd place a lion's share of the blame for both 2021 losses on his DL. In both games they generated little-to-no pressure and got blown off the ball in the run game. Other than reward for past performance, I don't understand. IMO, LJ, Coombs and Washington are the 3 that should be evaluated the hardest because they've been bad for 2 seasons.
LJs unit has technically underachieved for 1yr. If we're not counting last year. And the DL has played well in spurts. Just not consistently, but I have more optimistism in the young DL than I do in other positions like say Safety or LB. The fact that Chambers was far and away our best LB, says a lot, and our most tenured in Mitchell was nowhere to be found most of the season. At least I feel confident in Williams. JTT, Sawyer going into next season. Outside of Chambers who makes you feel confident about the LBS? What S makes you feel confident, Proctor who hasn't lived up to his billing yet? Outside of Burke we hVe a lot of unknowns at CB as well. I feel more confident that LJsr can get more out of Hall as well next season

I can't look at it as one season when the same issues from last year resurfaced again this. He has a rotation stacked with kids that should absolute not be this bad. We have blue chip guys that are just not good right now. If i saw consistent progression this year, I'd probably feel better about him; but, they've not shown it. They had some good games, but still some pretty brutal ones mixed in...like.today. He's still recruiting like gangbusters, but those guys we are salivating about when Pantoni drops a "BOOOOOOM" on Twitter are popcorn farts on the field.

And every kid doesn't play to his HS ranking. I've said this in previous posts. Guys who were supposed to blow up haven't, and that's held back the DL. And he's brought in 2 frosh to replace them for the future. And also brought in a kid that for portions of the year was our best DT. If a kid doesn't produce, is that the coaching or the kid? I'd say in this case it's it's kid, because we've all also seen LJsr have success with all types of guys like Tyquan Lewis, Jalyn Holmes, Adolphus Washington, Landers, etc. But those kids also put in the work. Not all kids do that, the kids need to take some responsibility when the coach has seen extended success.

I'd feel more confident with a starting DL in '22 of JTT, Williams, Hall and Sawyer than any other position group on defense and those are all LJsr recruits. I don't feel confident about any other group or the coaching with it on defense

If we can find another lockdown CB I’d feel confident about our secondary. A ton of talent there, just not a lot of experience. LBs I feel the least confidence in.

Agreed!
If we get Rick's then a lot changes on the defense to along with if LJsr can get the young pups in on the DL. Ricks and Burke, or even Burke and Johnson or Hancock could make for a formidable CB. But them again the weakness is the Safeties, unless we're counting the Bullet as a S. Hickman is a star but which room is he in S or LB?

I guess. But, I cannot look at the past two seasons and just say "oh, the kids just aren't as good as advertised" Even if that's the case and the kids were just vastly overrated, LJ is the guy that brought them in...so what's that say about his recruiting as he approaches 70 years old? Like I said, I don't think one guy should be safe. If I had my druthers, it would be a clean sweep. LJ will have an awesome legacy here, I just don't want to see him taint it if he comes back again and his unit still sucks next year. And I haven't seen anything in 2020 or 2021 that tells me he still has it.

I think Burke could absolutely be that guy. He played extremely well as just a true freshman. Yes, he had some bad games and made some mistakes, but he was never supposed to be "the guy" this season.

Have to hope we get Ricks to go along with Burke.

From there we have Proctor and Hickman at Safety along with Chambers and Simon at LB.

DL will be deep next year with 11,8,44,33,9,91 an 51 back.

No excuses next year but Imo we need our Jeff Hafley.

Linebacker has been a sore spot here for awhile. When Tressel was coaching it seemed like we had a constant stream of great linebackers. In the last few years I can say Warner was a good player but he wasn't great. We have to go back to Shazier and Darron Lee to find the last great linebacker here.
Linebackers aren’t nearly as important now, as when Tressel was coaching. DBs and DL are more important. Especially with all the hybrid LBs, they’re almost just slightly bigger Safeties now. And there’s more emphasis on edge rushing LBs than big run stuffing LBs

I'm confused as to how our defensive line looked like hot, incapable garbage on Saturday, yet Tyleik Williams only got 2 snaps. The game felt like they were giving the older guys too much run out of sympathy or something. Williams looked like a problem for people on a lot of his snaps and with the rest of the DTs doing absolutely nothing, it's incredibly confusing why Williams just sat the whole game.

I didn’t realize he was only in for 2 snaps but I did see him get destroyed on a 3rd and 1 play that went up the middle for a first down. He got driven 3 yards off the ball and ended up on his back.
