Oh that's complete BS on LJsr. He has had more guys than those 3. Washington, Bennett, Hubbard, Lewis, Holmes, Landers, Toagiai and Hamilton are all DL that have excelled at OSU with LJsr. Let's stop acting like LJsr only had success with the Bosa's and Young. If you watch NFL, teams are littered with OSU DL that have come under LJsr's tutelage.I love LJ and he is hell in recruiting. But it was Bosa and Bosa and Young… those guys were going to be incredible no matter what.
that being said the bigger problem is at linebacker. the gap there to an even average OSU LB unit is really wide
I think the scheme the last two season's hasn't helped these kids. There is a big disconnect. You have to put them in a position to succeed.Oh that's complete BS on LJsr. The problem the last 2yrs have been the guys who were supposed to pop(Harrison, Smith, Friday, JJB, Vincent, Jackson) have all under performed GREATLY! Harrison was supposed to be the next in line after the 3 5stars, and he has not made the next step. Smith has been incredibly inconsistent, his entire tenure, but moreso the last 2yrs when he's teased in some big games and exploded abd the next game he's nowhere to be found. I've been very critical of those 2 because they were supposed to set the tone on the DL this year and last, and have been some of our most average DL. And I'd be happy if either or both were backups next year in favor of JTT and Sawyer. Outside of Garrett this year, and sometimes Cage and Williams the DTs have been average as well. Vincent was supposed to be a top interior that could get to the QB and blow up OLs, and in his first healthy year he's looked like a kid picked up for depth as a low 3star. I hope that youth is favored next year because it seems like we already know what we have in many of the upperclassmen, and it may be in both best interests to part ways. Everyone can't play for OSU and strive for NCs annually. Maybe their better suited at schools with less pressure. But LJsr needs to have kids who WANT IT, not just say they do. That's the difference in the Bosa's and Young. They all easily could've been on this list, but they also were some of the hardest workers on the defense and refused to not make a difference jn games. It seems like many on the DL expect someone else to pick up their slack. And that's not on LJsr
Yep. The step-in to Head Coach here once Day retires or moves to NFL. Then Harline will be O coordinator too. Have to keep the home grown superstars here, where they belong.Offer Marcus Freeman a Godfather contract.
But we act like Day is old. He's 42 years old! Saban is coaching in his 70s, and Day could easily coach into his 60s. I doubt Freeman is coming here to wait for a HC position for 20yrs. Come on folks. There are other DCs out there, it's very closed minded to just constantly bring up Freeman over and over and over! I believe that Day can find another young DC like he found Hafley that no one knows aboutYep. The step-in to Head Coach here once Day retires or moves to NFL. Then Harline will be O coordinator too. It's not closed minded just optimistic. Maybe his aspirations are to be a HC sooner but we don't really know that. He could always jump to a HC position before Day retires, get some experience, then we go what we do until then. Hartline has no desires to leave so locking him in at OC only seems pertinent. After the season we'll know who is willing to come in and fix the situatioin but we hve to make the changes. I wouldn't hate Gary Patterson coming in if he'd take the gig. We have to get back to the Silver Bullets no matter what. But we act like Day is old. He's 42 years old! Saban is coaching in his 70s, and Day could easily coach into his 60s. I agree on getting back to Silver Bullets. But expecting Freeman to wait as our DC for possibly 10-20yrs is unrealistic. And I just don't see still why Freeman would leave ND for the same position at OSU. I'm sure OSU fans would come up with reasons, but taking off my scarlet glasses, I don't see why he leaves after 1yr in South Bend. And I see Day having more viable options. If we're going to keep bringing up Freeman then why don't we just bring up the Corey Raymond rumor mill againIt's not closed minded just optimistic. I'd be up for Raymond also. Bring Ricks with him.I agree on getting back to Silver Bullets. But expecting Freeman to wait as our DC for possibly 10-20yrs is unrealistic. Bucks allowed over 250 yards rushing twice this season. No surprise, those were the two losses.
Some things about football don't change. Stopping the run, or at least slowing it down, still matters.
