2021 CFB Playoff Discussion

Eight is definitely the right number. There's no bye weeks in the playoffs that way. It's only one more game than we have now so they don't have a month off in between CCG and playoffs. It has a reasonable scenario for all 5 major conferences to have their champ in it and then there's 3 at large. I dont see any negatives to 8.

Unless all 3 at large came from the SEC. However, one of the 3 should come from the "Gang of Five" conferences; like their highest rated conference champion. I like the P5 conference champions automatically getting in, it makes the CCG actually a CFP game too.

downside is that it makes the week before the CCG meaningless if one team already has their CCG spot locked in

That week is also, traditionally, rivalry week which is, perhaps, the best part of college football

8-4 Juggalos, champs of the B12 while a 1 loss Penn State or OSU sits home because the SEC grabs all 3 at large bids.

Pass.

I'd rather go back to no playoffs and the Rose Bowl tie in.

And if you do it all by committee, say hello to 5 or 6 SEC! teams in almost every year. The undeserving conference champ in every other year is a lesser evil to 3 undeserving SEC! teams in every year.

1. Of the three CFP games each season at least one has been dog shit, sometimes two, which indicates to me that going to 6/8/12 is going to produce more dog shit than gold.

2. Make winning a CCG a requirement for selection, i.e. fuck Notre Dame privilege. Grow up and join a conference.

3. Pick four regional sites and rotate the games through those sites, e.g. Chicago, DC, Atlanta, LA.

4. There will still be mistakes. I firmly believe that the 2015 Buckeyes were no worse than #2, but they couldn't get into the CFP because of one game played in a fucking Nor'easter.

After 1 week I'm predicting this 4 team playoff:

Undefeated SEC Champion - Alabama
Undefeated BIG Champion - The Ohio State University
Undefeated PAC Champion - UCLA
One Loss SEC Runner Up - Georgia Bulldongs

Every team in the BIG XII is going to have a loss. Every team in the ACC is going to have a loss. Tie-breaker to SEC UGA with a win over Clemson and the rest of their SEC Champion.
UCLA is the wildcard but I think Chip is going to have his west coast machine running again in Cai like he had it going in Oregon.
Replace UCLA with Oregon and I still believe this.
