What was disconcerting to me was that when Meyer said we needed to get Samuel the ball more, the solution the offensive coaches came up with was 1) just putting him in the backfield and handing the ball off to him- see: Wisconsin 2) just throwing him the ball in the flats- see: Clemson.
Just getting him the ball in the most simple ways possible is not the answer. You still need a scheme that exploits the defense by utilizing your most explosive weapon in creative ways.
The utter lack of utilizing Braxton last year was a travesty- to highlight that this isn't a recent issue with these coaches.
I would love to get Kenny G here as a QB coach. It is a little early for an OC role. He was a GA at Houston. I don't know what his situation is going to be next year with Herman's departure.Fcuk it. Let's get Kenny "Smooth Jazz" Guiton in here.

There is no reason last year shouldn't have been a record-setting offense. The available talent was absurd. Instead, we got a "pretty good" offense that wasn't enough to even get to the playoff. That compounded with a couple of utter travesties and horrific QB regression this year is too much. The utter lack of utilizing Braxton last year was a travesty- to highlight that this isn't a recent issue with these coaches.
Who's fault is that? The Head Coach or the OC? If it is Helfrich then we should be blaming Urban for what happened the past two years. We are not. We are blaming Beck.
I'm not saying he's definitely a bad offensive coach, since it could be the OC's fault. However, given that this is his first rodeo, at the best he's a wild unknown and at worst he's no better than what we have now.
To be clear, I can't fault Meyer for promoting Ed. He earned a shot. He took a shot on Beck, and while it has paid on the recruiting front, on the field it cost him possibly two title shots. They got two years, and at the end of two years the offense is totally broken. Learn from the mistakes, move on.
Agree on Ed. Not sure why he thought Beck was worth his recruiting when his coaching track record is bad. But yeah, if he learns from his mistakes and can get some great coaches for the next couple of seasons then it'll be left in the past.
Simple... Beck was a lazy hire to try to keep Warriner in the fold and keep him happy. Due to the fact they had worked together at Kansas some years earlier the assumption was they would mesh well and become cohesive like Ed and Tom... clearly that didn't happen.
