2017 Offensive Coordinator Discussion

Aside from the horrible QB development and playcalling, what happens to our QB recruitment if Beck isn't gone and Warriner removed from OC? Will we still be attractive to top-tier QB talent or do we go back to a steady stream of Karsatos-Frey-Jackson?

Also wondering whether JT takes the grad transfer route and reunites with Herman down in Austin. Just speculating.

Not if Beck and Warriner are headed to Austin as speculation suggests. Either way. JT ain't transferring

No. Urban Meyer is still head coach. What's the difference though if we get 2 star results out of 4 star recruits?

UM is a great coach, but he's not a miracle worker. It takes great coaches with great talent to win championships. Saban isn't stocking up on 2 stars down in Tuscaloosa, nor is Urban at Ohio State. I prefer not to live in a world where I'm rolling the dice that Urban can do something with Stanley Jackson at QB.

In my IMO I don't believe that Timor has any legs. Herman is too smart to go anywhere near those two.
Herman might be more concerned with recruiting Tejas than with QB coaching. Herman didn't have a stress induced hospitalization yet...he probably wants to coach QBs, OC and call plays while being HC. Never underestimate the power of ego

Also, I think we need a passing game coordinator. Not sure who would be best in that role, but the problem IMO doesn't rest solely on any of the common scapegoats: QB, receivers, line. It's a systematic problem that will require multiple approaches to address.

If we can get Kevin Wilson it's a slam dunk, but I think there are a lot of other good candidates out there that if given the chance (and the power) they could do great work.

Matt Canada just got snapped up by LSU but he did fantastic work at Pitt. Joe Moorhead is another but he isn't going anywhere. For a QB coach I'd be fine with Brian Wright who is at Toledo, he helped Woodside take a huge leap forward this year and he did some good work at FAU.

Hire Kevin Wilson as the consultant and make sure he plays the correct part and understands the negative stigma that surrounds him. Then, hire Chip Kelly as the OC figuring he might leave after a year and Kevin Wilson will be ready to go by then.

Basically Nick Saban has the thing down to a science and it's probably time we acknowledge the way the game has changed and start fighting fire with fire.

Something I had not thought of. If Beck is retained, I would not be surprised to see him do just that. The mood in the offensive meetings rooms has to be pretty sour. Lots of tea leaf reading here but it doesn't look like the players have a lot of faith in the coaching staff, at least on the offensive side of the ball.

I can get on board with that. Blowback on the Sark hire for Bama seems to have been nearly non-existent as far as I can tell, and given how little I seem to remember being made of Wilson being ousted from IU, I think Urban could do that with little to no blowback as well. Keeping Wilson from repeating that mistake is obviously a question mark, but I would trust that Urban would keep him in check and toss him if he even thinks about doing it.

But you and I both know recruiting is Urban's strong suit. That's not going to disappear because he changes coordinators. It didn't when Herman left nor has it when every other coordinator left. The fact that JT has passed like Stan Jackson in big games signifies recuiting doesn't mean shit if the coaching is garbage.

2 star results? We made the playoffs in a year with a ton of new players. It's a remarkable achievement that most didn't expect this year. Yeah, it ended poorly but your comment is way overboard.

I didn't say the team had 2 star results. The defense and run game were outstanding. The QB "development" had 2 star results and that is generous. The fact that JT looked much better as a freshman speaks volumes about the coaching because we all know JT is the consummate professional. It's not like he's blowing off the coaches and doing it his way
