2017 Offensive Coordinator Discussion

Whoever it is, they have a huge undertaking on their hands.

Not only the recruiting aspect, but he will have to unfuck 2 years of damage done to JT. Then he will have to change the mechanics of Burrows/Haskins. At least Tate will get better than the other 3 have gotten.

Damn I feel bad for JT.

Burrows looked fine when he played this year. JT is probably permanently damaged at this point. He seems to have lost all confidence and his ability to make quick decisions.

If they don't make a change recruiting will go in the shitter after the performances the Bucks have had as of late. Why would any major recruit want to be a part of what we saw.

You really just hurt like hell for the players. I put in maybe an hour or two on here/11w each week and then 3 hours watching the game on my fucking couch during the season. These guys put in 40+ hours every week of the year, and it's their futures on the line. I can't even imagine the frustration. I've worked with Beck-level people before and it's demotivating on a daily basis, and I still don't think it's even an apples to apples comparison because those colleagues didn't have anywhere as much of an impact on my future prospects as Beck has had on those of at least the offensive players'. You get a sense of how tough it is when they let things slip out to the media when they're trying to be good sports and say all the right things.

No assistants on offense other than Alford should be safe.
If Warriner doesn't want to go back to the OL he should be gone.
In fact he should be gone for endorsing Beck.
You know my feelings on The Schmails Kid.
Zone 6 is the ICP at this point.

We need a Schiano type impact/reorganization on O.
Yes everyone keeps saying Beck but this is every bit of Warriner mess too. He either needs to coach the OL again or he needs to go

Greg Studrawa is the O-line coach. So I'd be content with parting ways with Ed, and getting a home run OC hire in here quickly.

The reason everyone is upset isn't completely due to Tim Beck's shit gameplanning, and execution. It has more to do with the unbelievable regression of JT Barrett from 2014 to 2015 then 2015 to 2016. Barrett now resembles what it would have looked like with Braxton running the offense in 2015, only Braxton would have still made more plays with his feet.

Agreed - Burrows has always had solid mechanics, a coach's kid and it shows.

But you're right on about JT - it's like watching the college version of the current RG3. When they were young and not over thinking they would run when it was given, they'd hit their first or second read and move on. Now JT has had opportunity to run but seems to have it in his head to stay back and wait for a receiver to open.....his legs are what make him special and it seems we've taken that away from him. Without that run game confidence he's stuck in the pocket and losing confidence rapidly.

He's constantly staring down receivers - I think I counted 4 batted balls at least in the first half and it's been a problem more and more as the season goes on. I don't blame him, it still goes back onto the game plan and play calling.....we couldn't roll him out of the pocket at all? That's how you move a defense side to side and still attack vertically, not throwing into the flats and more and more WR screens. Did we think our WRs were going to be so athletically superior and JT would have the arm strength that these screens were going to work somehow? I'd love to know what we saw on tape to make us go with this game plan.

I said it weeks ago and I'll keep pounding it.....it seemed clear their great DL would attack our weak OL and we should use that against them, counter their ass, run draws on them, pound it between the tackles because they aren't going to expect it as they want to just tee off and get to JT. When Curtis had the chance to run between tackles, we had success. Weber was picking up good yardage....minus the fumbleitis.

So frustrating.....defense deserved better out there. That 31 is not reflective in any way of how they played.

It's not that fucked that's the thing... the pieces are here now we just need direction

How much of JT's issues are related to coaching/confidence?
It's hard to say.
But 2 years ago under Herman he was 5th in the Heisman voting.

5 of our 9 assistants are dedicated to the offense (and the HC is more dedicated to that side of the ball).
And right now it is Urban likes to say a Clown Show.
It is not hyperbole to submit that 4 of the 5 are below average in the roles they are in now.

It started with Herman leaving, giving Ed the promotion he deserved, and signing off on Ed's desire to bring Beck in.

Again you know my feelings on Zach but if he hasn't been booted now there is no reason to think he goes anywhere.
He certainly has no other options. I know Luke doesn't want him.

Braxton's accuracy wasn't as bad as JT's since his freshman year

GPIA

Also, I think we need a passing game coordinator. Not sure who would be best in that role, but the problem IMO doesn't rest solely on any of the common scapegoats: QB, receivers, line. It's a systematic problem that will require multiple approaches to address.
