2017 College Football Playoffs (and Other Bowl Games)

Bad News guys. I got perma-banned from a GT Message board for talking [Mark May].
Feisty BigWoof is back and there is only one message board I belong to now.

:pimp::pimp::pimp::pimp:
How exactly in the blue fuck do you talk trash to GT???
“Single option, Double option, Triple option, boo, your team sucks and your mascot does too!”

“Your head coach looks like the guy that sold me my furniture”

“We ain’t Cumberland, bitch!”

Playing the devil's advocate ~ when the Buckeyes win 3 NC's in 4 years and their worst loss in the last (11) years, including 2007/2008, is 14 pts. then maybe the Buckeyes will get the benefit of the doubt like 'bama.

2009 ~ 2017

btw, 15 and 31 this year beats any 'bama loss in the last eleven years!

Also realize the Tide is playing w/house $$$ this year.

carry on ...

Now your're being disingenuous. Like them or hate them the SEC earned that reputation by winning titles with multiple teams over the span of nearly a decade.

so this years best 4 teams should, at least in some part, take into consideration the bowl results from 10 years ago?

If there's anything else you folks want to know about how college football works just let me know.

do you happen to remember what lsu's record was in 2007-8 by chance? according to the above it seems relevant.

I hate to defend Alabama, but they had no idea FSU was going to blow this year and lose their QB, so I am going to give them some credit for that OOC game

of course, they absolutely get credit for scheduling the game. they absolutely do not get credit for beating a 6-6 team *shrug*. does ohio state get equal credit for beating army? they were the shit back in the day....

Assuming Urban takes a step back away from the Offensive wheel AND we dont lose Wilson and/or Day... I suspect Wilson and or Day are gone after next year which means '19 will be starting over with new coordinators... which to be honest is getting a little annoying.

do you think there is a chance tOSU lets urban go and gives the job to wilson?

I'm OK with us not getting into the playoffs this year. We had a great ending and won our conference and beat Penn State, MSU and scUM and an undefeated and 4th ranked Wisconsin. That's a hell of a performance run.
I hope Bama gets blown out and the committee ends up with egg on their faces from going with Bama. And it certainly could happen.

Just heard on the radio here that the MSU folks are pissed off about the Holiday Bowl. I didn't really think about it when Michigan got the Outback Bowl that they had been selected for that over MSU who had the better record. I guess the committee felt Michigan had better TV ratings and traveled better. Still the Little Brother......

College Football Playoff again chips in with stipends to send parents to playoffs

On Monday, the College Football Playoff announced it will distribute $2,500 stipends to each player playing in this year’s playoff to be used to help family members attend the games. The stipend is to be used for travel, hotel and meals to either the Rose Bowl or Sugar Bowl.

The NYD bowls don't mean much anymore vis a vis the Big Ten. Holiday Bowl features two ranked teams while the Outback Bowl features none. San Diego is also a better destination. I think MSU ultimately got the better end of the deal.

So since Bama was picked using the out of calling them unequivocally better, admitting the resume wasn't better, that basically means the committee has to hope OSU doesn't look very good against USC. For example, if OSU beats USC by 17 and Bama beats Clemson by 3, they still technically got the selection wrong since Bama isn't unequivocally better than OSU. They need OSU to look at best just ok and Bama to look at least better than ok. Obviously worst case for them and potentially system altering fuck up is if OSU looks very good and Bama looks not good at all. Think OSU/psu last year but but this time instead of fucking up and having one conference team going in ahead of that same conference using the unequivocally better rule, they would have used that rule incorrectly to give a conference a 2nd team and eliminate an entire conference altogether. That would have repircussions felt that weren't felt last year because A) it was an intra-conference fuck up and B) OSU had a legit resume. This year would be inter-conference and Bama has no resume whatsoever besides 4 letters (B, A, M, and A). I don't think it would go to 8 because of the potential fuck up, but the committee would be blown up in some way. Either members or criteria or both.

I agree on the matchup for sure. I know they mentioned the payoff difference but I wasn’t sure of the impact that makes with the conference sharing.

What bothers me is the last four weeks of the season were:

- Ohio State: curbstomped Michigan St, curbstomped Illinois, beat Michigan in Ann Arbor by two possessions, outplayed Wisconsin on a neutral field in a game that never felt as close as the final score.
- Alabama: struggled on the road against Mississippi St, scheduled Mercer for SEC's annual 'Cupcake Week,' lost to their rival in game that never felt close, and did not play on championship week.

I am 110% confident saying that Ohio State's potential is higher than Alabama's ceiling. The teams are trending in completely opposite directions.

"BUT, BUT, BUT They're Bama. "

I'd guess that #1-G5 matchup would be a blowout at least half the time, but I think you'd have some really good games too and maybe an upset every six or seven years. 2010 is intriguing because if Boise beats UNR, they would have hosted a game in Boise. And Nevada playing the #1 team that year would have been intriguing because you'd have had Alabama trying to defend Kaepernick and the pistol when nobody knew how the hell to deal with it.

In the entire BCS era, the only G5 team to lose a BCS bowl was Hawaii. Every other team won, and I will never, ever forget Utah putting the plunger in Bama's ass in the '09 Sugar Bowl. They had eight sacks in that game.
