2017 College Football Playoffs (and Other Bowl Games)

Why do people keep saying we need Oklahoma to win out? Am I missing something?

Scenario 1
W vs WVU
W vs TCU
TCU out, Oklahoma above us. 1 team from Big12 is a lock.

Scenario 2
L vs WVU
W vs TCU
TCU out. Oklahoma most likely get's in ahead of us.

Scenario 3
W vs WVU
L vs TCU
Would they send two teams from the Big12 with 2 losses with the possibility of a rematch of a recently played game? I don't think so. 1 team from Big12 at most.

Scenario 4
L vs WVU
L vs TCU
Oklahoma out. Would put TCU who is currently at 12 vs OSU curretly at 9. I doubt they jump 4 spots. Likely no team from Big12.

As you can see, the 2 best scenarios involve an Oklahoma loss with 2 losses being the best case scenario (and most unlikely). If that doesn't happen, it really doesn't matter much what happens with Oklahoma. Alabama winning out or Clemson getting upset by South Carolina are really what matter most.

Regardless of your argument, (which I think is a good one), you deserve an award for most instances of the word SCENARIO in a single post. (6)

Can Clemson lose by 30 to South Carolina. That would be funny.

I think we're a longer shot for the CFP than most want to acknowledge.

No team has ever made it with 2 losses.

No team has made it with a loss greater than 14 points. Both of our losses were by more than 14 points.

Frankly, I'm more concerned with how we're playing. We made it last year - yea, us - but we barely got by Sparty and TTUN our last 2 games. The result? Crushed by Clemson.

If we look good tomorrow and next week and get in, great. If we barely get by I don't want in - no need to be crushed again in the semifinals.

Not really at this point. Basically it depends on Bama. OU should win out. South Carolina, Georgia Tech, and Stanford could be helpful but aren't necessarily needed. It's looking far closer to possible then it was the week after Iowa.

I'll say it again: I'm more concerned with how we're playing. We barely got in last year and got embarrassed. We rolled in a couple years earlier and won it.

If we squeak by the next two weeks, give me a bowl game. I don't need to be destroyed in the CFP again just to say we were there.

We haven't squeaked by anyone this year outside of Penn St. We either win big or lose big. Also squeaking by isn't necessarily bad it's how we look when doing it. If we look competent in all phases but win by 7-14 I don't think that's bad. If we look discombobulated and barely win both weeks that's when I'll be worried.

Well you can throw out the two loss point because the only way there isn't a two loss team in is if Wisconsin beats OSU or if Bama loses to Auburn and Georgia beats Auburn and they both get in with 1 loss. But if Bama, Clemson, and Oklahoma win out the 4th team is guaranteed to have 2 losses. It's just which 2 loss team.

I agree that a 2 loss team shouldn't get in ahead of a more deserving 1 loss team, but if Bama wins out that won't be the case.

Edit: hell, we could just be getting started. There legitimately could be MULTIPLE 2 loss teams and it wouldn't be crazy. Imagine if aubirn wins out, Clemson loses to SC and beats Miami, and Oklahoma loses to TCU. You'd probably have 3 two loss teams and a 1 loss team in....and that 1 loss team could be a non-conference champ in Bama. And I didn't even need to stretch for that scenario.

One more time, I'm more interested in how we're playing. Getting in the CFP just to say "we made the CFP" doesn't excite me. Frankly, I think getting our asses kicked again in the CFP would hurt us going forward. If the Bucks roll thru scUM and Wiscy and get in, fine with me. Otherwise, accept what we are and play a bowl game.

Half your post was referring to OSU not deserving to be in, and the other half was referring to if they get in you want them hot and if not you hope they don't get in. I was replying to the deserving part. They probably will deserve to get in, but not due to their resume but due to other teams shitting the bed.
