I’m all for keeping the rule, so long as it’s called correctly, and consistently. As it stands right now, it’s neither.

because the powers that be make money no matter what happens on the field

professional refs would just be an added expense

(remember, this is a business that doesn't have to pay for labor)

Business man/commissioner looks up and sees the money he's making. Not sure he thinks the game is being hurt at all.
