2017 CFB Bowl Games Open Thread

UCF didn’t play a team anybody had heard of all year. OSU got massacred by a bad team at home, and had a bonus loss.

The best two teams ended up in the title game. They just happened to be from your favorite conference.

So the best two teams were beat by the same team in the same conference? And yet they were the best

I don't ever recall seeing "OSU get massacred by a bad team at home" this year and UCF beat the team that beat the 2 teams playing for the NC and was the only undefeated team left standing at the end of the year. His point was: They were never given an "opportunity" in this current, subjective system we call a CFP and Bama was given an "oportunity" based on past results and reputation, bc they certainly didn't earn it for anything they did on the field in 2017.

And? Pick whatever 4th conference champion is most palatable to you.

Your point was that the committee were proven "right" because Alabama won it. They would have been proven equally "right" if Ohio State or UCF had gotten in and won it. Results don't justify their decision as whether or not Alabama could hypothetically win it wasn't the issue in the first place. Doesn't have anything to do with what conference they're in.

They earned it by being more consistent than OSU. That’s why Bama didn’t have a 31 pt loss to a crap team.

Confession: I've been in London since January 3 so I can only speak from the little bit of the final game I've been able to see here. I remain convinced that Ohio State had enough talent to play with any of the teams contending for the NC, too include UCF. BUT, the Buckeyes were not the team we collectively thought they could/should/ought to have been. They did nothing in the second half of their Cotton Bowl game to make me believe that the committee got it wrong outside the possible choice of UCF over Clemson, and while UCF might have won a game against one of the remaining teams, I seriously doubt they would have had the depth to beat two teams of that quality.

Geography was an issue in the finals in that Clemson did not have to venture very far, but Alabama traveled well and so it didn't matter.

In the end, Saban's recruiting and coaching staff paid dividends and they once again prevailed.
