2017 CFB Bowl Games Open Thread

Just sayin': For some strange reason I was hoping Baker Mayfield and the Sooners would lose to the Dawgs.......

Yes, I'm sure you were.

Ohio State had that opportunity (for one, not two) just last year but, you know, 31-0. Winning a division isn’t a playoff making criteria.
IMO, they would've been wrong last year too, regardless of what OSU did in the playoffs.

I would've talked mad shit if they'd won the NC, but they would've been wrong. Games are played for a reason. Lessen the importance of the game context and you neuter college football.

Trust me, no one will watch it except $outheastern confederacy fans.

Lord knows that I'm no apologist for the mid-majors, but UCF this year has really convinced me that they should have been included. Move the damned thing to 8. Get all the P5 champs in, let 1 G5 roll the dice and give 2 at-large spots for worthy P5 non-champs.

We would have had a first round of
UCF @Clemson
USC @Oklahoma
Wisconsin @UGA
Ohio State @Alabama (though I think there's a good shot that they would have flipped the seeding since Bama was guaranteed to be in)

I'm not sure why so many people over estimated Clemson this year.

To me they were "meh" all season. They basically "earned" the right to be in the playoff by escaping with only 1 loss.

They caught Auburn early in the season and won a sloppy game before Auburn sort of got rolling finally.

Miami's record was impressive but I don't think they are as good as the record looked. FSU and Ville were dookie this year and the rest of the ACC as a whole was a flop.

The drop off from Watson to Bryant was huge. He only threw 13 TD/8 INT and while he ran for 600 yards only averaged 3.5 YPC

Don't tell anyone, but the unworthy UCF would have played the non-juggernaut that is Clemson. Now that savage Clemson DL would have made life difficult, but if there was ever a year to dabble in non-power 5 teams, it was this one. You know, when there was literally no credible resume for the 4th spot (which is different from whether they can win if invited, see OSU '15)

UCF would have gotten CRUSHED in the playoff, regardless of who they played.
