2017-2018 Ohio State Men's Basketball (24-7, 15-3, #2 Seed in B1G Tourney)

4-0 headed out west. Just where they wanted to be.
As expected record-wise, but I feel good about how the team has played thus far. While the inability to shoot 3s will hold them back against quality competition, they have performed admirably in spite of that flaw. Barring injury or suspensions, this team should be solidly in the postseason (NCAA/NIT) mix. Perimeter shooting is the main reason I still think they are most likely NIT-bound. A couple wins in Portland could go a long way, though.

OHIO STATE TURNS FOCUS TO PK80 INVITATIONAL FOLLOWING BLOWOUT WIN OVER NORTHEASTERN

The first four games of the Chris Holtmann era have come and gone, with Ohio State coming out a perfect 4-0 to start the 2017-18 campaign.

Now comes the hard part.

The Buckeyes are set for a trip to Portland, Ore., to appear in the inaugural PK80 Invitational on Thanksgiving night, with their first game coming against last season's national runner-up in Gonzaga.

Ohio State's second game in the tournament will come against either Stanford or Florida on Friday, closing with a third game in as many days next Sunday. From there, the Buckeyes are set to return home for a matchup against Clemson before opening conference play with games against Wisconsin and Michigan.

The upcoming stretch for Ohio State is one that Holtmann called the most challenging of his career as a head coach.

Zags are 3-0, ranked 17, and we have the one common opponent in Texas Southern. They won a little more convincingly, but the Bucks, for all of their shortcomings, haven't allowed any of the opponents to hang around too much, either. Really looks like the Zags are within the Bucks' grasp, and this would be a huge win. They are without Williams-Goss, Jordan Matthews, Karnowski, and Zach Collins from last year. This is not the same team we saw in the tourney last season (a team which did not overpower Northwestern or West Virginia, by the way). They do have five guys in double-digits, so their balance could be a problem. I'm excited for this one.

The bracket I saw had us against Florida-Stanford in the second game, and a third game from a pool of Duke, Portland State, Butler and Texas.

i think the biggest challenge that ohio state will face against gonzaga is their perimeter shooting. the zags go 7 -- maybe 8 -- deep, but 5 of them are solid shooters behind the arc. though the last two opponents shot poorly from range against the bucks, robert morris and radford combined for 21/47 (45%). if the zags find a groove from three, i think it's night-night.

as far as what few's plan for osu will be, i think it's quite simple: force the bucks into jump shots. help on tate and kbd as much as possible, thereby making jackson, williams, and jallow prove themselves as set-shooters. entice tate into taking an early jumper... and hope he makes it. tate with perimeter confidence is not good for us.

We have had a solid start to the season. We've not faced high level competition, but won comfortably without shooting well from the perimeter. We've been playing with good effort and solid defense. Obviously if the poor shooting continues, its going to be a problem against better teams.

I'm excited for the Gonzaga matchup. As has been pointed out, they aren't nearly the same team as last year. They are still very skilled, but not the same level of athleticism to be able to match up with elite teams. Obviously if both teams shoot from the perimeter what they've been averaging, its going to be a tough night for us. We need to be able to knock down open looks and prevent them from having easy looks. This game will test our perimeter D because they won't rely on one pass and quick shot like many of our early opponents have. They will work inside out and make the extra pass to get clean looks. Our team D will be tested and I'm looking forward to see how we fare.

This is the Buckeyes schedule for the next two weeks and someone, mainly the Big Ten office, need kicked in the nuts for letting this happen. I understand the games that we are committed to play in the PK80 Invitational and the game against Clemson in the ACC Challenge but the 2 Big Ten games following those games fall right on the shoulders of the Big Ten office because the season has to start a week early. I am pretty sure that we were scheduled to play in the Invitational tournament before the Big Ten decided to cave-in to the Big East and have to start the postseason conference tournament a week early which I think is bullshit. The hell with New York city. Keep the Big Ten tournament in the Midwest where it belongs.

Vs. No. 17 Gonzaga on Nov. 23 (Thanksgiving Night at midnight)

Vs. either No. 8 Florida or Stanford on Nov. 24 (probably around midnight)

third game against No. 1 Duke, Texas, Butler or Portland State (probably around midnight)

Wednesday, Nov. 29 against Clemson in the Big Ten-ACC Challenge

Ohio State plays at Wisconsin on Saturday, Dec. 2

home game against ttun on Dec. 4
