2017-2018 Ohio State Men's Basketball (24-7, 15-3, #2 Seed in B1G Tourney)

Was not planning on talking myself into thinking THIS year's team could be anything to write about, but I'm actually excited enough to want to break down this roster and potential as if they could win the Big Ten (joking, I think ).

Definite energy boost around the program right now- fans, players, staff and recruits.
Looking forward to the manifestos by myself, @OSU_Buckguy, @DZ83CK, @billmac91 and @LitlBuck and everyone else about how there's enough talent/matchups to cause problems this year.

Seriously, I'm still a huge believer in the talent of Bates-Diop. Mixed with Kyle Young, Kam, Tate. Should be enough to win some games.

Just so thin at guard/ball-handlers. Need CJ to continue making the leap he did once he got comfortable. And then someone else to step up to fill in other minutes as needed. Coach Holtmann pulls off the miracle of getting Ayala into the '17 class and I'm making Final Four predictions lol.

I think the key is getting Ayala to reclassify and come to Ohio State. If that happens, I think our concerns for back court depth will be unfounded. Even though the back court will be young at least Williams will not have to play 38-40 minutes:wink:

OSU nonconference schedule is out. 8 home games vs nobody worth mentioning, ACC Challenge vs Clemson, neutral vs UNC and PK80 in Portland vs Gonzaga, Stanford OR Florida, and one of Portland St/Texas/Butler/Duke. Zero true road games.

Hopefully this will change under Holtmann. How can you expect fans to sign up for season tickets to watch teams which play their home games in 4,000 seat gyms?

I am still angry over the treatment I received as a season ticket holder.

The OOC schedules the past few years have been pretty miserable.

You don't have to play every game against some power 5 powerhouse, but there are at least better low-mid major squads out there you could fill the schedule with instead of playing 8 or so schlubs a year.

Yes, I agree for many years, to an extent they have taken advantage of loyal fans by selling them inflated numbers of home games featuring deflated competition.

Chris's Butler teams had a comparably good number of 5 buy games annually vs lower tier teams, hopefully when he gets a chance to make the schedule he will continue that.

There is no rhyme or reason behind MSU and Wisconsin having 5-6 cupcakes per year and Ohio State always being at 8-9. To me, it reflects a lack of competitive spirit, a lack of appreciation for your fans, and ignorance of or carelessness regarding the impact OOC games can have on building your tourney resume/seeding. When most other top teams in power conferences have 2-3 more quality win chances than you, you are putting yourself at a disadvantage for seeding and selection. It's naturally harder to compile more quality wins on your resume than those teams because you self-imposed less chances for you to get those good wins and a smaller margin for error.

I am guessing this number of fluff games to be cut down to at most 6 next year.

Guessing some of this year's [improved but still] lackluster OOC schedule is just due to previous year's engagements/connections. I doubt the athletic department had put in a call to any team with a pulse the last 5-6 years, so there's some carryover building that back up, especially this late in the summer.

Looking forward to more high level games in the future.
