2015 B1G Football Discussion

I was mostly looking at the 3 on the top-left and assuming it's Wilson acting as a buffer between Urban and mental illness.

My best guess:
Old Corn, Purdont, Turtles all the way down, Kill, Fitzy, New Corn, Corn's daddy
UFM, Indiana, CUNT, Dantonio, Cult, Iroc-Z Aggy, UnderArmour

I think the giant melon-headed fucker in the far right corner is Bon Jaggy

Any other motherfucker I'd say "quit with the jinx", but @BUCKYLE has special powers...And goddamnit if I don't believe it myself.

This team is the one we kept saying "wait til next year" after we lost to Va Tech last year. [Mark May] is gonna get ugly...

Agree on BUCKYLE's superpowers of prognostication, and also agree this is the team everybody was saying "wait til next year." That's not just BP members, that was what Urban was saying last summer, and that's what all the analysts were saying too.

This was mentioned after the championship run, but using the ELO rating system, Ohio State's 2014 team was the second most dominant college football team since 1982, trailing only the 1995 Nebraska Cornhuskers. [link]

Also consider the 2003 BCS national championship game between Ohio State and Miami, which may have had the greatest collection of two-deep talent on both sidelines ever paired for one game. That game and the 2004 NFL Draft produced two records: Miami had 6 first round draft picks, and Ohio State had 14 draft picks overall for seven rounds.

The 2015 Ohio State team could - by some projections - hit both of those marks all by themselves in the 2016 draft.

To say this will be the most dominant team ever could be seeing it through scarlet colored glasses, but to say it could be the most dominant team ever is not hyperbole.

I am drinking more than kool aid tonight, but if I wasn't, I'd still agree. Size, strength and speed of this team is, in my imo, unprecedented in Buckeye history position by position. That don't mean shit though. They got to have their heads in the right place. We will see...

That '95 Nebraska team is still the best team I've seen in my lifetime. They did it differently then we will though. Again, we will see...

1995 Nebraska is the standard until someone proves otherwise.

2015 control their own destiny in terms of even being in the conversation however and that is no small thing.

The playoff format will add a degree of difficulty.

BUZZ SURROUNDING BIG TEN A LITTLE LARGER IN 2015

56864_h.jpg,qitok=5eFUdMxr.pagespeed.ce.mBO9S9uCza.jpg

Jim Delany made his way up to the podium Friday morning at Big Ten Media Days, palms sweaty, wondering what type of questions he was going to receive from the media during his annual press conference at the event.

It hadn’t been easy for Delany in the past. The Big Ten, especially in football, had been somewhat of a punching bag for the national audience. He was often grilled with questions of what the conference could do better to become more relevant.

That wasn’t the case this year, though. Not after what Delany described as a “great year for the Big Ten” in 2014. The conference claimed 10 national championships and, in football, the league proved itself worthy and was no longer that punching bag that had been beaten nearly to death.

Ohio State won the 2014 national title and first-ever College Football Playoff. Michigan State and Wisconsin both claimed big-time wins in bowl games over Power 5 schools. On the biggest stages, it was the Big Ten which finally shined the brightest.

“To be honest with you, it’s easier to come up after a good year and there is a certain energy and optimism,” Delany said. “We feel good about that. But really, the interesting thing is the — is how the season plays out and watching the stories unfold. That hasn’t changed from year to year.”

Female officials coming to Big Ten football

6_3750885.jpg

Big Ten Coordinator of Football Officials, Bill Carollo, said at the conference's Media Day gathering on Friday in Chicago that the league is hoping to diversify its group of officials and will add female officials to the conference's consortium in 2015.

"I know for a fact that a more diverse staff is a stronger and a better staff," Carollo said. "This year we have added female officials to our roster. They will work games in our consortium this season, not because they're female but because they've worked their way up through the officiating ranks. They've mastered the rules and mechanics, and they're prepared for this next step in their officiating careers.

"This should not be viewed as a gimmick or a PR maneuver to gain attention or because of social pressures. This should simply be viewed as progress."

It should be noted that a female official has worked a Big Ten game before, but hasn't been a full-time member of the conference's group.

Sarah Thomas, who earlier this year became the first full-time female official in NFL history, worked for Conference USA and was an official for the Rice-Northwestern game in 2011.

If it isn't a publicity stunt than why announce it a public forum (for the press to report) instead of just going ahead and doing it?
