2015-16 Ohio State Quarterback Discussion

I hear you, but the idea of a QB being credited with a team's win is not something I invented; been around for some time now.
The defense Braxton had makes the comparison ridiculous in my humble opinion. I would say a guy named Ash had a lot to do with the wins vs Wisky, Bama, and Oregon. Two totally different teams, apples and oranges. There is another saying that has been around longer, "Defense Wins Championships"

I think I should start at QB. They can call me the double-double douce, since I'm 44 years old. And I'll win all my games and then blow up Twitter accounts and life will be good. And you will all worship me and call me Yertle, the king of all that I see! DO!

1. You're 42.
2. You don't know how to use Twitter.
3. The only defensive players you're beating are me and my kids. I expect we'll get scholarship offers from a couple of Big Ten teams, but I hope the Buckeyes have a better option at quarterback for the post-season.

Good O-Zone article on tOSU QBs....

Five for Friday: Current Thoughts About the Ohio State Quarterback Battle

There's been quite a bit of talk about the Ohio State quarterback situation this past week, which is more than the normal amount of talk, which is usually substantial, and so I thought I would go ahead and jump onto the dogpile and contribute some of my own thoughts to the situation.

When I see people in my everyday life, sometimes they don't even ask how I'm doing before they start talking about the Ohio State quarterback quandary. This is not only rude and hurtful, but repetitive. So I thought I'd go ahead and get a bunch of these thoughts out of my head and down onto virtual paper.

Now, the next time a family member or friend eschews basic human pleasantries for a quarterback interrogation, I can just slam a printed copy of this Five for Fridayin their stupid faces!

1. Don't forget about Braxton.

Even if Braxton Miller isn't healthy enough to compete for the starting spot, he is still going to be a part of the Ohio State offense. You don't take a guy who was arguably the most dynamic player in college football and then just put a baseball cap on him, stand him on the sideline and tell him to stay out of the way. This is a guy who had 10 carries of at least 30 yards in both 2012 and 2013. Do you know how many Ezekiel Elliott had last season? Eight.

Outstanding article IMHO. I have said the same thing about Cardale not being responsible for Eze's yards. Wisconsin had ZERO fear of Cardales "big arm". He was a total unknown. Not to mention the 80+ yard runs that added to the totals. The line was responsible for the yards more than anything else.

Ive always thought the same. IMO, Barrett should be the starter. Our O line was the best in the nation by seasons end, EzE flourished behind it. Imagine that line, mixed with Zeke reaching his potential with JTs accuracy, and command of the offense...

And don't forget Braxton will get on the field and will get touches regardless of his throwing ability. The guy has moves that few in the history of the game have ever had. He can make guys miss with the ability only very few that have ever played could.

I am still routing for Braxton to play QB although I know it will be a huge ask with the injury, but if I had to bet my money is on JT getting the nod.

it's not hard to believe the Buckeye signal-callers ranked just 62nd in combined interceptions thrown.
J.T. Barrett was the chief culprit as he tossed 10 interceptions in 314 attempts while Cardale Jones added two in 92 throws. Combined, the duo threw for 41 touchdowns against those 12 picks so it wasn't the end of the world but making better decisions in the passing game to complement an effort to reduce fumbles should help the Buckeyes move the needle in both of these first two statistical categories.

The Marshall ricochet against Oregon was scored an interception, and I'm pretty sure the other one was when Devin Smith didn't turn around running an intermediate route against Alabama. So Cardale really didn't throw a pick unassisted.

One Vegas insider has J.T. Barrett as favorite to start for tOSU

One Las Vegas bookmaker, though, has Barrett as the favorite. From the Cleveland Plain Dealer’s Ari Wasserman:

According to Las Vegas betting insider RJ Bell, the founder of pregame.com, J.T. Barrett is the favorite to lead the Buckeyes this season at -125 (43 percent chance).

Next in line is Cardale Jones at +120 (35 percent chance), then Braxton Miller at +250 (22 percent chance).

Vegas may be corrupt, but they do not deal in emotion and sentiment, but rather cold, hard facts - something hard for fans to do.

If JT is 100% healthy, he's the guy - and it's not really close. He wins by a mile on leadership, efficiency, reads, and ability to execute every concept in the playbook. It's the emotional tug of thinking about Cardale's 3 game performance and Braxton's 3 years of providing thrills that fog it up. Understandably so, but I would guess if we polled non-OSU people who have played and/or coached the position, and who have reviewed what each can/can't do, JT would win that poll by a large margin.
