2015-16 Ohio State Quarterback Discussion

Everybody thought that Meyers coaching job this year was phenomenal, and it was, but just think how hard that's going to be if all 3 guys are healthy and ready to go in the Spring! You know they are all going to want to play and they are all proven winners at this point. F that. Good luck corch!

Thing is I'm confident as hell in any direction we go. I do think that Barrett will probably have a leg up if he's 100% because we lose Devin Smith. Cardale could fully utilize Devin the way the other guys didnt as much because of the arm strength. Losing Devin is definitely the biggest loss for this team, even over Bennett in my opinion. Isnt it funny how our two most productive WR's in our history outside of Boston are also probably the two most under rated? Awesome.

Talk about the pot calling the kettle black.

Why? the only reason he missed any action at all was because his ankle got caught up in a scrum. That was a freak occurence. I think he was plenty durable. Yeah, he got dinged up against the pedtards, but he stayed out there.
JT got his ACL torn in high school.
Now, he gets his ankle broken in his first year playing major college football.
And there was the knee injury at Penn State.
And in this offense, QBs take a beating.
There is a reason we will have so many QBs on the roster this year and it's not by accident.

One more thing.
Does anyone think it was just Zeke hitting his stride that allowed him to rush for over 200yds against Wiscy, Alabama and Oregon?
It was the weapon at QB. Cardale with the ability to bomb away from anywhere on the field.

I think that this is overblown. I also think that a much bigger part of it was going away from uch a heavy diet of read-option plays and giving him the ball both more often and on plays designed just for him where there wasn't as much possibility of a misread sending him and the ball into a bad situation.

But the whole "timing" of Zeke's explosion is more than a little coincidental.
And against the best competition we faced in any 3 games all year.
Watching JT run this offense all season I kept wondering where the explosion was?
Sure, JT was very efficient at running it and getting the players the ball. But it looked like we were just a grind it out, methodical team with little big play capability.
Then. We explode against Wscy in the BIG Championship game. No one saw that coming. We were underdogs.
Underdogs again against the #1 team in the country. In probably one of the toughest environments. We get a explosive run from Zeke to seal the victory. But, before that a deep TD to Devin Smith.
Coincidental?

Urban's offense gets QBs hurt. Even Tebow got hurt.
We will need a "pair and a spare".
If they are all fully recovered, that is!
I'm starting to wonder just how durable JT is?
I get the feeling we'll see Cardale a lot this year. He may be most able to survive the pounding.

Right, this isn't like Beanie Wells, where it's nagging injuries that plague JT. I guess this could turn into nagging injuries down the road, but his ankle could also heal just fine and no longer be a problem.

I honestly think some of it is just pretty coincidental. The offense changed to Zone blocking, power run, and buck sweeps. There wasn't read option. So he touched the ball much more often in situations where he was getting the ball 100% of the way and the entire play call was based on blocking for #15. Previously it was zone read blocking which doesn't open up holes as well. The offense in the first 12 games were compeltely different than the previous 3. The defensive prep for other teams didn't have that much film to watch.

Wasn't Barrett injured only once and it was a season ending injury? I don't recall a time he went out due to injury, but only to give Jones some reps.

It was the weapon at QB. Cardale with the ability to bomb away from anywhere on the field.

Watching Film Room, a lot of it was Eze and scheme against Oregon. They had no answer to our D containing the edge and stuffing their run game. That led to quick turn-arounds (their tempo working for us) with their D exhausted instead of ours, and finally their D had no answer to the unbalanced formations - out of which Herman ran Counter as if it was DAVE.
By the end Narduzzi and Mason are straight dogging Oregon's defense, predicting about 75% of our plays, and outlining the adjustments Oregon failed to make. Herman was able to be super predictable and take the game out of Cardale's hands (after 2 fumbles) because Oregon couldn't stop the train to save their lives.

Against Alabama, it was a different story. Cardale's arm combined with multiple receivers (everyone knew about Devin) having more speed than Saban and Kirby realized put their secondary under siege opening up the run. Him taking on guys like Landon Collins and destroying their dreams did a lot too.
Alabama was definitely the bigger challenge of the two, and by far Cardale's better game imo.

My point is that this season has blown up every single expectation of the quarterback position at Ohio State. Making predictions in the wake of that is foolish. We have no idea if certain players might stay or go. We have no idea how rehab will go. There is no QB coach on staff after Monday night and spring practices still to take place.

35 pages in this thread so far, with most participants making specific, bold predictions. A few people might be right - I'm sure everybody thinks they're the ones in that group. A lot of people will likely end up being wrong. We've already been wrong a lot over the last six months.

Sometimes it's good to be wrong :urban2: already mentioned I thought the Buckeyes were dead in the water after the VT game so I'm an idiot. Who knew? Read a comment about how good CJ was at another forum about a year ago, but I think they were being sarcastic.

Regardless, bottom line, it's good to be king er Urban Meyer. But "our" house $$$ was used/spent after the Oregon game. 2015 should be interesting. And since ESPN is obsessed w/Ohio State, they should be very happy "we" keep giving them things to talk about.

2014 Ohio State was the hunter ~ 2015 Ohio State is the hunted. What has Meyer learned since his 2 NC's at Florida and the in between year of 9-4 including a loss to MI in a bowl game.

ok, I'm going o/t so carry on ...
