2015-16 Ohio State Quarterback Discussion

The prognosis I read said he'd be throwing in the spring - just not doing much running.

I wonder how much of his throwing will be impacted though. From my understanding a QB's throwing motion can really be thrown off with an ankle injury. The fact that he must drop back a couple steps and plant the injured ankle, his motion could very well be negatively impacted. We've seen with RG3 just how long an Achilles injury can linger.

I don't think there's any way CJ would've came back to be 3rd string lets put it that way... I think CJ is going to start, I think Braxton will play sparingly at QB but will also find a defined role in our offense (redzone threat would be enormous), and if possible JT gets a medical for this next season.

I tend to agree that Miller would be best served moving on. He can go elsewhere and be THE MAN from day 1. Nobody will ever doubt his love for tOSU. Oregon or LSU would be great landing spots for him. No shame in being Wally Pipp'd by a near Heisman finalist and National Champion.

I don't know if "best served" is accurate unless we're just talking playing time.

Now, obviously we don't have any idea how far he has progressed since the last time we saw him play... but if I'm basing my NFL scouting on what we HAVE seen I don't think he's quite ready for a spot in the NFL as a QB... so the only way I think he transfers is if he truly feels he's on track to becoming an NFL ready QB. I'm in the crowd that feels he'd be best suited pursuing a pro career as a slot receiver/h-back and I think that there's a definite spot for him next year as a Buckeye in that regard.

Agreed, and I think he could see serious time at H back, pushing Dontre and Jalin. It's a great problem to have with so much talent and athleticism there, but I do hope Braxton is able to want to switch positions as well, because for now he's still seen as a QB

I'm new here and have watched OSU since the late 60s. The QB situation is a good problem to have... I think. I'm really interested in what happens because it's not just a question of which QB is better. CJ brings a whole new aspect to the offense. I'm assuming CJ is not a fluke and I have no reason to believe he is. He was impressive on 3rd down and I don't think EZE gets nearly 700 yards in 3 games without CJ. Give CJ a good OLine and I think he excels and EZE excels.

That said, I hope it all shakes out and I trust the best choices will be made.

I'm not convinced we win it all with anyone but CJ.

I am convinced we win it all with any of the 3..just 3 different game plans. Only Kyle thought CJ was leading us to a title after the scUM game. But I do recall UFM winning a title with Leak and a Freshman who couldn't throw anything but a Jump pass. Miller JT Cardale> that duo.

So here we go...assuming Braxton, Barrett and Jones are all here and healthy for the start of next season, who would you start? In my opinion you start Jones...he filled in after Barrett goes down and beats 3 top 15 teams...I also think he is going to be the best NFL prospect of the bunch as well but that's not as important now but is for discussion...I do think Barrett is close behind Jones and it will make for a very tough decision...so since it for me came down to Barrett vs Jones, I prefer Cardale because of his arm strength and mobility...while not as fast as Barrett, he makes up for this with his ability to throw a nice deep ball...this has opened up our running game tremendously...I do not think it's a coincidence that Elliot has 3 of his best rushing games while Jones is at the helm (and yes the dome helps)...I think Meyer will let the best man win on the field and in the film room during fall practice...as long as Jones continues to stay focused I think it's his job to lose

Braxton Miller.....only player to be named Big 10 offensive player of the year in 2 consecutive years. Need I say more?

Cardale Jones...only QB on our roster to win a CCG, playoff game, and national title. JT Barrett...only QB on our roster to be a Heisman finalist as a freshman and set all the records he did. Everyone has their argument. But from a developmental standpoint, Braxton will have to have improved substantial with his technique and accuracy to get any serious consideration from the NFL as a QB. Now (particularly with the injury) the NFL will not likely seriously entertain the though of him playing QB and will draft him as a KR/PR/WR/RB prospect much like Denard Robinson, Antoine Randel-El, Julian Edelman, Josh Cribbs, Eric Crouch, etc...difference is, all of those guys played QB out of necessity for their teams. Without that necessity here, Braxton can give scouts a one year preview of how his game would translate to the NFL in that role and seriously improve his draft stock. He was a WR in high school up until midway through freshman year, so he has some experience catching the ball and if he committed himself to learning the position, he could thrive there...still the most dangerous guy we have with the ball in his hands. I really think Brax has the choice of insisting on being a QB all through college and transferring, only to be moved to a different position in the NFL...versus embracing the change now and making some extra money initially on draft day.

Exactly...I don't see how Braxton makes it through a year as "the man" here or somewhere else.. I think what he would be most wise to do is to become a Pivot with some serious abilities to throw the football. Think of Cardale Jones with 15 flanked to his side, and here comes Braxton on a Jet sweep... Oh my god what I wouldn't give to see that. You're talking about a 220 pound equivalent of Dontre Wilson with better open field moves. Not to mention you put Mike Thomas out wide with either Jalin/Dontre as the other slot and THAT is a dangerous dangerous offense. I mean what would you do to stop that? you're talking about straight ahead being impossible to stop with Zeke/Cardale, Braxton will kill you off tackle (as can 17 and 2), and if somehow you manage to contain the run game a play or so We go over the top with 12's big arm.

I'm with you RB 100% why play QB your last year when Braxton more than likely won't be playing QB in the NFL.. This next year would be a perfect transition for Braxton to showcase himself in a new light. One that emphasizes his speed, size, and array of ways you can use him (like Randal El)

Edited to say that this is a embarrassment of riches that we have right now... Next year and even the immediate future is so bright. I know Urban likes to play his freshman but personally I think we've been redshirting them all the past few years because simply we are that loaded that you have to wait your turn

And who is the best man at utilizing the skills of ALL players on the offense? Urban. The way he involved EzE, Dontre, and Jalin this year was remarkable and he is most certainly the best coach in the country to help Braxton make that transition most effectively.
