2015-16 Ohio State Quarterback Discussion

You mean one year of chemistry? Or are you counting the redshirt season where he was 4th on the depth chart? And Braxton having zero on-field chemistry? He'll have zero on-field chemistry with the sophomores and freshmen, but not the juniors or seniors next year. That's like 3/4 of the players who start on a football team. And lastly, I'm sure the Broncos are glad they decided that knocking the rust off isn't that tough of a thing to do. And as you said, Braxton MAY have suffered a career-killing injury. If that's the case, then there is no decision (unfortunately). You don't honestly think Urban's gonna start Braxton who can't throw the ball at all due to his injury over JT, do you?

nope. which is why i think JT will be the starter next year.
your Broncos reference is noted. my rebuttal is that Peyton Manning doesn't have the injury history of #5.
Braxton has never played an entire season, going all the way back to high school.

twenty months. less than two years, i'll admit. significantly more than one year though:
JT took part of 2013 winter conditioning. #5 didn't.
JT took reps in spring 2013. #5 didn't.
JT participated in the 2013 summer drills. #5 didn't.
JT took reps in fall 2013. #5 was very limited.
JT is the starter this season. #5 is in a sling.
JT will take part of winter conditioning in 2014. #5 won't.
JT will take reps in spring 2014. #5 won't.
JT will participate in 2014 summer drills. #5 won't.
JT will take reps in fall 2014. #5 might.

that's an awful lot of reps that JT is getting instead of #5.

Devin Smith, Evan Spencer, Jeff Heuerman, and Tyler Decker are all seniors.
there aren't a whole lot of juniors at the skill positions.

next year, JT will have taken the majority of the reps with Corey Smith, Michael Thomas, Dontre Wilson and Ezekiel Elliot.
next year, JT will have taken ALL the reps with Curtis Samuel, Johnny Dixon, Marcus Baugh, Jalin Marshall, Parris Campbell, James Clark, and Noah Brown.

that's the chemistry i'm talking about. JT will have it. #5 will not. plain and simple. it's a whole new group of skill players. ones that Braxton will have taken virtually zero reps with for 20 months. meanwhile, JT will have been taking reps with that group for 20 months.

Man, what a great post, up north, too. My congrats to you both! :urban2:

This Braxton vs. JT conversation is all conjecture and is about as meaningful as a pimple on a sad dog's ass, by the way. No one can predict the future. As such, no one can begin to make any sort of reasonable guess about how it plays out until August 2015.

I mean, you can have fun guessing all you want, but none of it will be based in reason or fact.

To that end, can we just get a JT vs. Braxton thread split and not in the reference locker? I'll join the debate come next summer camp but for now I just want to talk about JT Barret in this thread. Then everyone else who thinks this is a pressing issue can discuss it and I can just ignore that thread.

Did I say they were?

I can plant four rows of corn in my garden next year, and while I cannot guarantee a crop, due to floods, drought, pestilence, etc, I can make a reasonable guess that corn, and not tomatoes, will grow in those four rows.

Using 'one cannot predict the future' to qualify and set parameters on 'one cannot make a reasonable guess' of the future' is the fallacy.

One does not follow the other.

But you're essentially saying that only JT can get better, and are really just using your own made up world. Is it possible that Braxton is just a completely different QB mentally when it comes to being able to read a defense and run the offense next year? I mean, from a mental standpoint he'll be 2 years more advanced from the last time we saw him. And we all know JT can't do what Braxton can do with his legs. And if Braxton still has his arm strength, that's another thing he's got over JT. It's really not much of a stretch that he will be the better college QB next year. Unless you just assume that we will see an improved redshirt sophomore JT next year and compare him in your head to what you saw last year from Braxton as a junior.

Your logic is so profound that I suddenly don't feel any need to continue participating in this captivating conversation. But thanks for setting me straight.
