even the selection committee is pissed and embarrassed
Indeed, the whole idea behind the frickin' "committee" is to pick the (4) best teams! ie the eye test. Not the teams who "deserve" to be there because "they" got lucky on a particular day.

On the bright side, maybe next year they will totally discount conference championships and er the Big 12 conference because of this years laughable semis. Yea, if they want people to watch er ratings er the bottom line $$$ and "we" know they do.

>

And speaking of the little 12 can we just declare the FPI null and void er a useless joke after putting OU at the top for the last 2/3 mos. And OU/Baylor/TCU in the top 3 for 3 straight weeks. Who are these fools? After last night they put 'Bama #1 ~ shocking! But they still have OU #2. In what universe is Oklahoma still #2? !@#$%^&*.

What's going to happen when it's CLEAR the top two teams are not just in the same conference but the same division? Us and scum or Alabama and Auburn for example? One of each of those pairs not only win the conference but one won't even win their damned division. Then you will sit one of the top two teams in the country because they had to play a 1 v 2 match up early in the year and lost.

Last year we BARELY got in and this year we were handily left out. Bottom line is this needs to be 8 teams. If you're worried about adding games then take a conference game away or something. You figure it out.

Very worried about an 8 team playoff
The physical wear and tear... of playing scUM, B1G championship a week later...
followed by 3 sledgehammer games in 3 weeks... is extremely concerning

THE NC would not be the best of the best
It'd be the last one standing

The FPI (like ESECSECPN) is very heavily weighted towards teams with prolific offenses. Whether it's intentional or not, that's what happens.

The big issue is ESPN acts like it's a valid way of measuring teams, when in truth defense still wins championships.

Seriously, there's no way to pick a "true" national champion, 4/8/16 team playoff notwithstanding as you always have the possibility of top teams playing each other twice in the same season. And more teams in the playoff = more teams playing each other twice. Plus the longgg layoff between the end of the season and playoffs unlike the lower college divisions who don't have the long layoff.

The Buckeyes got hot at the right time last year and had the motivation as the underdog. In a nutshell, was NC State the best college basketball team in '82/'83. No, but they won the championship!

Lightning in a bottle ...

Agreed, don't like an 8 team playoff. Turns the championship from a championship to an end of season exhibition tournament. March madness is a lot of fun, but it's no championship.

If they do go to an 8 team playoff, they need to bump the scholarship limit to 95 or 100.

Not to mention the wear and tear on the players. Players aren't being played, so it is not right to put them through a grueling 16 game schedule.
