2014 TSUN Shenanigans and Arguments

I don't agree with the rush to crown Harbaugh as being this great recruiter because he's never had to truly do it in the past. At Stanford, it was all about identifying the right kind of kids that admissions (and don't for a minute believe that they don't also make athletic exceptions) would let in. After that, the school pretty much sold itself to that group.

At Michigan, he is going to have to wallow down into the mud for the same 900 SAT/5 star types that everyone else is after, and Michigan will not sell itself in the same way to them. He's going to have to convince the home state kid not to go to Sparty. He's going to have to come into Ohio and convince a few kids not to come to Ohio State. He's going to have to convince the California kid not to go to Oregon, the Texas kid not to go to UT and the Florida kid not to go SEC!. He has never had to truly do any hardball recruiting in the past. He may end up being good at it, but it's no foregone conclusion, particularly given his ego and unwillingness to eat the occasional shit sandwich.

I think he'll have consistent top 10 recruiting classes every year. Michigan really does sell itself (I mean shit, hoke was a great recruiter there). That and kids will want to play for Harbaugh because of his success in the nfl. But we'll still be pulling top 5 classes on a consistent basis though.

Report: 49ers expect Jim Harbaugh to accept Michigan offer 'this week'

Michigan fans may get their Christmas wish, the return of Jim Harbaugh to the Wolverines as the team's next coach, after all. While conflicting reports have different details regarding the length or dollar amout of Michigan's offer, Bleacher Report's Jason Cole reported Saturday that San Francisco 49ers staff members are expecting Harbaugh to leave the NFL and take the Michigan job.

via Bleacher Report:

Two members of the San Francisco 49ers staff and a third NFL source said Saturday they expect 49ers head coach Jim Harbaugh to accept a six-year, $48 million contract to become the head coach of the University of Michigan.

"That's what everybody on staff believes is going to happen this week," one of the sources said. "Jim has figured out that his style is best-suited for the college game. His shtick works better with young guys who are gone after three or four years."

Harbaugh will finish the 2014 season with the 49ers on Sunday against the Arizona Cardinals.

Cont'd ...

... sounds exactly like something an aspiring journalist would make up to get clicks

Maybe, but it certainly seems like a lot of people are quoting that Harbaugh is heading back to ttun. There is a lot of smoke to disregard this story. I just don't think the Raiders are going to step up to the plate.

Michigan has made sure they're a strong contender with that offer, but I don't think anything happens until NFL teams get their pitch.
There's just as many half-baked glorified blogs writing stuff about Oakland.
Miami has taken themselves out in deferance as scUM alum. A bit surprised NYJ hasn't entered the fray. But seems nothing will happen until Monday, and a reason all the scUM sources say Tuesday rather than last week, post-game Sunday, or even Monday.

John Bacon (Michigan's Jack Park of historians) says it's a done deal.

I just got off the phone with more sources tonight. It's done. Jim Harbaugh is coming to Michigan - and his friends are flying in Monday.

Book it. This tweet carries weight. "RT @Johnubacon: It's done. Jim Harbaugh is coming to Michigan - and his friends are flying in Monday.”
