2014 Preseason and Regular Season Polls

I've been looking at some of the computer models. The numbers are changing dramatically, with the Buckeyes now a pick to beat Sparty and run the table. That would be a pretty tall order, given that Sparty has two weeks to prepare and plays us at home, but there you are.

I see that aTm is primed to leap back into the top 10 if they can beat Ole Miss this weekend. I can see this happening. The game is in CS and Ole Miss will be emotionally drained from their first victory over a No. 1 ranked team and playing on the road.

I'm not holding out too much hope for that game, as their strengths match up perfectly with our weaknesses. But you never know. I will say, I've seen enough the first 5 games to be very excited for the future, and they're coming along much faster than I anticipated along the OL. We still need better play from the back seven to really get the most out of this scheme on defense, and the recruiting is addressing it. Coming into the season (after losing Brax), I was pretty bullish about a 9-4 type season. Maybe even 8-5. I've seen enough to think that was a serious low-ball prediction. Keep growing, and we will be in for a helluva run, if not this year, than definitely next and the years following. We're still dealing with the fallout from some underwhelming results of a couple of recruiting classes in 2010-11.

Why I don't like ND: Notice the impressive climb in the polls for beating Syracuse, Michigan, Purdue and a 2 and 2 Stanford at home.

Oh, and did you see the Under Armor ad in which Kelly says, "We chose Under Armor because they play for championships just like we do here at Notre Dame."

Which championship, ACC, Big East, Commanders Cup? You play to get into a bowl game; period.

You must really not like Baylor then--they're ranked even higher than ND, and Baylor's resume is even less impressive, having beaten the following teams:

SMU (0-5)
Northwestern St. (2-3) (and an FCS team)
Buffalo (3-3)
Iowa St. (1-4)
Texas (2-3)

I'd love the Buckeyes to draw that straw for their bowl game.

Well, in all fairness, they did have that little nail biter with Alabama two years ago.

Hopefully, Ole Miss, wins out...They are pretenders. They were leading Memphis only 7-3 to the fourth quarter.
They got lucky Bama fumbled that punt return. Bama undoubtedly would have gotten into FG range and won that game otherwise.
Ole Miss is my favorite SEC team right now. Because they suck and are overrated. TAMU will probably blow them out.

Ohio St #15
Offense is clicking!

I feel like we have a shot at the playoff still. Obviously the B1G is down but we get to play a lot of teams before they get many losses in conf play. Obviously we need to win out.

5-1 Rutgers
5-1 PSU if they beat scUM
Illinois lol
7-1 MSU
7-2 or 8-1 Minny
A probably bowl eligible Indiana
And then we get to crush scUM 86-0
B1G championship game(hopefully 11 win Corn)

Just win out and then let's see where the cards fall. If they miss the playoffs it'll be because they lost to a shitty Virginia Tech team, not because of the strength of the B1G.

I keep hearing how tOSU isn't a top team because of the secondary, as if damn near every team in the country doesn't have at least one weakness. I don't think tOSU is a top five team in a vacuum. I think they're top five precisely because of how they compare to the other teams.
I get that you are a Buckeye fan above all else. I'm glad that Coach Meyer sees it differently. I don't think he's lying when he definitively says not a championship defense. I'm guessing the problems keep him up at night. It's a real problem that requires a solution for this team to be a contender. Meyer knows it, and I'm glad for that.

Rutgers helps a little, but I have serious doubts about PSU, Minny, and Indiana's ability to be consistent enough for those records. The West division in particular will just swap wins among themselves until they all look bad.
Even Nebraska could easily drop a game to a team they should beat.

I think a BCS bowl (or whatever we're calling them now) win would work wonders for our reputation right now and that's what I'm hoping for. Just stay high enough that the committee places us in one of those against a Miss St, Ole Miss, TAMU type school. I want Arky 2.0 w/o the stupid off-field controversies.
