2014 Preseason and Regular Season Polls

At the risk of To deliberately sound like a broken record, how much better would our chances of snagging the last playoff spot be were we facing a top ten Michigan team on Saturday? Again screw this "taking care of business" crap. In more seasons than not, we will have one loss and be battling other one loss teams for the final two playoff spots, and perception will matter. We need a strong Big Ten and a strong Michigan. Ohio Fricking State shouldn't have to count on going undefeated to get in.
It's kind of a catch-22. If you have a shitty conference, your chances of going undefeated go up. And if you go undefeated you're in. If you're in a strong conference, your chances of dropping a game goes up. And if you have one loss you're in. That's why I think having your conference being loaded is overblown. I mean FSU is quite literally the perfect example. Last year they kicked ass every week, so I wouldn't look at that team. But this year if they were in a good conference they have at a minimum 2 losses. They're now on a path to get in the playoff.

Edit: we are most likely a Braxton injury away from being in the playoff and probably even #1 in the country.

JFC. Speculation has run amok here. Just win and let the chips fall. Just enjoy the games and quit worrying about crap you have no knowledge or control over.

Its run amok everywhere. The new ranking system has made nothing better so far. In fact all it has given us is more speculation and 13 people to point fingers at.

I think the Bucks get jumped over by Baylor tonight. However, in the end we do bounce over both Big 12 teams if we win out (to include a B1G conference title).

Getting tired of the media giving credit for FSU for pulling out games late and showing themselves to be championship caliber, but Ohio State narrowly defeating Indiana is quite the opposite. Why? I dont have a damn clue.

If the conference was better, we might stand to trip up once more. So I don't buy what you are selling.

Honestly, just beat a shitty VT squad and none of this matters. I mean VT is horrible.

In addition, we have just as much control over our conference quality as we do over our OOC opponent quality. Which is little. But it would be just as easy to say that we should expect a better OOC Oppoenent because if the OOC team we lost to was respectable, folks wouldn't question our ranking either.

The committee is begging for a reason to put Ohio State in the field. If the Buckeyes take care of business, I think they're in.

People have been looking at the Sunday polls for an indication of how Ohio State would be viewed. For the last several weeks though, the polls have actually been taking their lead from what the committee did in the previous week.

The polls (or the media at least) didn't treat the Buckeyes as well as we thought they should in the BCS era. The bowls however, and their closed-door selection process treated the Buckeyes very well - perhaps better than any other program to the extent that the system allowed them to. That is essentially the system that we're working with now. The polls and the media aren't driving this thing. The backroom guys are, and that's benefitting Ohio State at the moment.

A top ten Michigan team would've beaten Minnesota and Michigan State, thereby knocking those teams farther down in the rankings (in Minny's case, possibly out of the rankings), and cheapening Ohio State's wins against those teams.

It's Michigan Week and you still are advocating a sickening codependent relationship with those scumbags. What in the Hell is wrong with you?

Bama-tOSU will be a far bigger ratings draw than:

Bama-Miss St (rematch)
Bama-TCU
Bama-Baylor

Not even close.

Was everyone predicting disaster? I wasn't paying attention.

Not everyone (shameless self-plug imminent), but there were quite a few doom-and-gloom snap reactions here and in the game thread.

Don't think anythings changed since last week. Minny and Wiscy will be ranked at the end of the year.
B12 is already finished imo. Not having a CCG will hurt them, especially so long as the committee keeps TCU ahead of Baylor.
If somebody is keeping us out it's either Wisconsin or Miss St.

Some other shit that helps...
Finally MSU has officially made it back into the top-10.
Wiscy leapfrogged over Auburn during DIAA week to crack the top-15.
Minnesota leapfrogged 3 teams that didn't lose, combined with the losers falling they went up 7 spots.
Definitely feeling affirmed they'll remain safely in the top-25 so long as they don't get utterly dismantled by Wiscy.
Unlike the fuckwits working in the media (esp ESPN), the committee apparently doesn't think Arkansas is the best team that needed an 0-12 FCS opponent to reach bowl eligibility ever.
