2014 Preseason and Regular Season Polls

Ohio State stays at #7 in latest coaches poll:

1. Florida State
2. Alabama
3. Oregon
4. Mississippi State
5. TCU
6. Baylor
7. Ohio State

The Buckeyes are only 68 points behind #4 Mississippi State.
I still think if we win out , we are in. but I share the concern you posted in another thread that we are sloppy right now and may struggle to win out.

Agreed

I am 100% certain the opportunity will be there in terms of teams in front of OSU losing

That means jack if OSU doesn't make a public display of culling the B1G heard of these last two remaining retards then winning the B1G CG.

Good news is that Urban Meyer is well aware of that and perfectly comfortable with sweeping the leg.

And if they are truly looking at profiles, they'll see that FSU/Miss State/TCU/Baylor's profiles all had issues/collapsed while Ohio State's improved.
Dollars have to fit into the equation somewhere, and let's face it: Ohio State means more money than Mississippi State, Baylor, and TCU.

A dream Final Four, at least for those who stand to profit from the venture, would be Florida State, Alabama, Oregon, and Ohio State - all big time programs with national recognition, TV footprints, and fan bases that will travel.

I suspect you are right that this would be a dream scenario for the tv contracts and advertising companies. Will be interesting to see how the committee views us in relation to TCU and Baylor.

Yup....although the purist in me hopes this isn't the deciding factor.

I am just amazed they are in the discussion. After the Va Tech debacle, anything over .500 looked like a win. This team has come a long way this year and I think that bodes well for the future.

Couple issues with the Coaches poll ranks:

#25 Duke - wtf? They have no signature wins. Their best victory is a 41-3 win over Kansas. They have lost to Miami by 12 and now VTech. Why are they still ranked? Is it to justify a #1 ranking for FSU?

#8 Ole Miss - This team has two losses to bad teams: Unranked 7-4 LSU and 7-3 Auburn. No way should this team be above Michigan State who's two wins are from top ten teams. Other than beating Bama, their best win is either a shutout agaisnt Presbyterian or a win over Boise St.

#10 Georgia - They lost to 5-5 South Carolina and 5-4 Florida but still top 10? Someone explain this to me. lol.

I get the feeling the Coaches Poll is thrown together in a big rush.

I'll do my best;

Duke: probable opponent of FSU in the ACC CG, t.v. needs two ranked teams

Ole Miss: EGG Bowl ratings, see above

UGA: Possible SEC East champ, ditto

I can explain. SEC loses are quality losses. Meanwhile everyone else's loses are awful awful awful.

Although to be fair, Sparty hasn't beaten anyone in the top 10 aside from Corn. And we all know how badly they shit the bed yesterday.
