2014 Preseason and Regular Season Polls

Possibly the two smartest ADs in the history of college football, the two who put Miami and FSU into the ACC where both could presume to dominate on the field in between NCAA investigations and sanctions. It must really grind the gears of SEC fans.

Obligatory

If they drop ohio state in the polls after Today it is complete and utter bullshit.......UCLA scored fucking ONE offensive TD against a UVA team that won 2 games last year......BAMA struggled with a WVU team that was awful last year.....Auburn was tied at the halftime with an awful Arkansas team....FSU had some fortunate turnovers to beat an unranked okie state team.....

I hate to say it but the most impressive 2 teams I have seen since Thursday is aTm and Georgia. You are right, the other big names looked pedestrian. Granted I haven't watched everyone but I put in a pretty long marathon yesterday. Best player I have seen is clearly Todd Gurley followed by Kenny Hill. I still say Hill is more of a product of the system and having great receivers. Gurley though is a total bad ass.

Who cares where we are in the polls, it's meaningless. Enjoy the ride and sit out on the polls, your life will improve.

Well they will, and SHOULD, drop in the polls. We were ranked 5/6 with the qualification of having our most talented and valuable player. The only way we shouldn't have dropped is if JT came out like Kenny Hill, and showed that there was little to no difference between himself and Braxton. IMO that didn't happen. Now the question is how much SHOULD they drop, and how much WILL they drop. I think they could drop as far as #14 (everyone staying pat but TAMU jumping us and SC falling out). Now that would be BS, but that's the farthest I see us falling. Teams that IMO should be ahead of us, at least as of now:

FSU (yes didn't show out, but they are still defending NC and have the returning Heisman winner)
Bama (again, didn't show out but I think we are one year away from having the talent they have top to bottom, so I'll give them the nod here)
Oregon
Oklahoma
Auburn
MSU
Georgia
Probably TAMU
Maybe LSU

So I think we're still a top 10 team w/o Braxton, but I'm guessing. The pollsters make us top 15.

Edit: and to make sure the point is clear, I'm not saying we should drop due to how we played vs Navy, but we should drop since the polls originally included Braxton as our starting QB, and while JT was good, he's not Braxton.

Correct. My clothes will come back in style (or go out, depending on your taste) before Mark May, Herbstreit, or any of the "on the take" pollsters say anything nice about us.

Incidentally, I'd much rather be us than Wiscy today. They gave it away.........what a joke.

:oh:

It is a bit of a surprise, unless you think Navy is a 10 win team. The computers, which don't mean much this tme of year, had thw Bucks as 10-14 point favorites.

I'm hapoy at 7 right now

Can't complain at all. I think the coaches probably feel like many of us and don't feel like they can take too much away from that game. We'll know more after Saturday. It is quite surprising they didn't take the opportunity to "correct" their rankings with Braxton out and have a couple of SEC teams jump us.

AP

1. Florida St
2. Alabama
3. Oregon
4. Oklahoma
5. Auburn
6. Georgia
7. Michigan St
8. Ohio St
9. Texas A&M
10. Baylor

I'm surprised. I figured OSU would've fallen further given the loss of Braxton. Being jumped by Sparty and Georgia I can live with.

If A&M hadn't broken the plunger handle in the 3rd quarter I'm sure South Carolina would've been ranked #10 instead. As it is, with Petty's injury there's still plenty of time for LSU to make a charge. They did get a first place vote, after all.
And I guess it's an unspoken rule that you don't drop Bama after a shitty performance at home against a team that will likely win 1 or 2 games in conference.
