2013 Preseason and regular polls

What I "read below" disproved your point. Pre-season rankings mean [Mark May]...most everyone on this board agrees with that. FSU started out at #11 because no one on the planet knew just how insanely fucking good Jameis Winston was going to be. Compare their most impressive win with ours...51-14 over highly-ranked Clemson, at Clemson no less, is more impressive than our 63-14 win at home against the unranked Pedsters. And side from the dogfight up at BC, they've flat out killed everyone on their schedule while we had three dogfights in a row (Wiscy, Northwestern, and Iowa). I would agree with the ESPNSpew statement that "there is no room for debate about who should be the top two in the BCS, the debate begins at number three." I'd say the gap between us and Bammer and Free Shoes in not as everyone claims, but they clearly are the two best teams so far.

You've been watching too much ESPN. OSU never trailed in that Wisky game, and led a lot of it by double digits. Wisky scored the last 10, making what was a blowout into a game that people who didn't watch the game (or forget what happened) think it was closer than it really was.

Here's what I'd like to see. Ohio State wins the national championship. When Herbstreit pitches up to do his, "hey, I was an OSU QB", they give the press a documentary ranking Ohio State QBs of all time, with Herbstreit south of the top 50. Then, refuse to let him into WHAC or to interview player. As a final indignity, the scoreboard flashes PUMPKIN HERBSTREIT during the game. Let that #1 ranking set in.

No I haven't, and that game was not a blowout. We were up only 17-14 until we scored with a second left in the first half, and we never should've let them get back to within a TD.

It is debatable. Period. They use rankings to validate their position but ignore Sparty and MSU being vastly underrated. Calling Iowa a dogfight is bullshit. Wisconsin would curb stomp BC. NW has played one game all year with their three best players. If MSU wins out and tOSU beats them by three scores in the BTCG, then there's no reason tOSU shouldn't jump FSU.

Florida St has beaten every opponent they've faced this season by 14 pts or more. Only two teams in the last two decades have done that: 2004 Utah and 1995 Nebraska. The Seminoles are not going to lose to this years Florida team. FSU is going to blow UFs doors off.

Sure, but freshmen, even rs freshmen, can do the darnest things. I'm not ready to chalk up UF/FSU for FSU yet.

Exactly. I feel that the same things that has helped FSU in the polls, namely their margin of victories, can come back to hurt them down the stretch. Imagine if it's back to back tight games at the Swamp and in the ACCCG, while OSU is beating the crap out of SCum and MSU.

Key is Urban politicking a little bit, like he's starting to do. He's 1-0 vs. the ESPN/Herbstreit narrative.

Please read my post again--I said "making what was a blowout..." The Buckeyes were up 17 in the fourth quarter--a blowout at the time. That is a far cry from a "dogfight," which is what you originally claimed, and with which I took exception.

Your definition of "blowout" differs from mine. Bottom line is that whether we like it or not, FSU's season "resume" is superior to ours.

Now, if FSU all of a sudden plays like shit in a game or two, winning by a TD or less, and we kill Illinois, Indiana, and Michigan and then win impressively against MSU in the CCG, then we may jump FSU even without FSU losing...otherwise, we absolutely need FSU to lose for us to jump them.

I'm starting to think there's a certain impossible standard of perfection thing going on when it comes to Ohio State.

It doesn't matter if they win 140-0, someone would drag them down. When Boysee was beating Southwest Wyoming State Penitentiary for Blind Convicts Who have Gout, ESPiN was all over their ballsacks. Ohio State recruits elite players, marches through their schedule for 2 straight years and gets zero respect. FSU has beaten exactly one team worth a crap (Clemson), a team that has been chronically over-rated for the past 5 years.

It's nice to think that, but it won't be happening unless Bama or FSU loses.

Believe it or not, this was the scenario (FSU struggling, us dominating) that Mike Belloti (ESPN hack) himself mentioned today as a way that FSU could possibly get jumped without losing. Highly unlikely, but not impossible. A loss by either Bammer or Free Shoes is about the only way we make it to the big dance...
