2013-14 Bowl Games Open Thread

Iowa gave LSU all that they wanted.

Wisky lost only because their QB was taken out of the game with a helmet to helmet hit.

Nebraska beat Geoegia.

MSU beat Stanford far worse than the final score indicated.

The big losers in this final rendition of the BCS so far have been the ESPiN campaigns in favor of the SEC and against the B1G.

If Ohio State and Florida State take care of business, the ESPiN attempt to position the new playoff format as an SEC playoff will be off to a bad start.

Turned on Mike & Mike over 20 minutes ago. Still waiting for a mention, even in the "updates" during commercial breaks, of the Sugar Bowl result.

They finally got around to it and, predictably, it was excuse time. Alabama "expected" to play for the NC, so they were letdown. To his credit, Golic called bullshit on that one by correctly pointing out Bama led 10-7, had over 500 yards of offense, and was only down 7 in the 4th quarter. They didn't just not show up and lose by 5 touchdowns. They turned the ball over and it cost them.

Of course, we all know if the Bucks lose after they "expected" to play in the NC game there will be no such excuses. It will be the usual "overrated", "Big Ten", blah, blah, blah...so let's win, please.

You don't have to look too closely to see that it isn't words Stoops is eating, it's Saban's head on a platter.

You rang?

Paul Finebaum was eating some crow on Twitter earlier, and will most likely be eating some more crow on his show. He came out and said earlier last month that 'Bama would crush the Sooners and make Stoops like stupid for his comments before the season about the S-E-C being overrated. lolz

http://newsok.com/paul-finebaum-on-...unholy-anxiety-on-the-sooners/article/3916397

Q: Do you give Oklahoma any chance at all in the Sugar Bowl against Alabama?
A: None. I really don’t. And I’ve always been a big Bob Stoops fan, but I just … listen, I know what people will say about five years ago with the Sugar Bowl and Utah, but I’ll be shocked if Alabama doesn’t just come out and unleash unholy anxiety on the Sooners.

It’s bad to have to lose (to Auburn); it’s worse to have to listen to it every day, and this is really their only chance. I know that sounds predictable. I haven’t seen a whole lot out of Oklahoma this year other than two days — maybe Notre Dame and State — that really has impressed me at all.
Q: You mentioned being a fan of Bob Stoops. I’m curious what you thought about his comments on the SEC last summer.
A:I really thought about calling his wife to see if maybe he had hit his head somewhere. I just didn’t understand it. He does have experience. He’s been in the league; we all know that. He’s played the league. The one thing about Bob is he’s not afraid of anyone, and I like that. But I thought he was picking on the wrong group. I realize the conversation is not apples to apples, but considering how embarrassing the Cotton Bowl game was, I just didn’t understand why he would pick a fight with the SEC, knowing that anyone could bring that up. It just didn’t make any sense.

I think in a college debate class, he would probably have a better argument when everyone would have to stick to the facts, but that’s not what he had. I thought he really opened himself up. If you’re gonna say that, go ahead and prove it on the field. I was surprised because I’ve always been a huge fan of Stoops.

It is bad to lose to Auburn, when the loss is kind of a fluke. It's gotta be a lot worse to lose to a team that pretty much owned you the whole game.

(Wonder if Stoops' comments make sense to Finebaum yet?)

The iowa LSU game was close but while watching it was hard for me to ever feel like they were going to win although I hoped for it.

And Wiscy didn't lose simply because their QB got knocked out as the USC QB went something like 22-25...I mean Wiscy had little answer to Shaw. Meanwhile, injuries are part of the game - I don't think we beat Miami simply because McgayHee had his knee blown out.

Meanwhile, the MSU Stanford game wasn't a nail biter, but I cannot see how you think they beat them worse than the score indicated. Heck, Stanford had the ball with a minute left with an opportunity to tie.

But I agree with the other parts.
