2012 tOSU Recruiting Discussion

3 medicals in one year sounds extremely high to me. I know the names being mentioned, but they were talked about last year too and it didn't happen.
McVey & Fellows have been in sweats in every home game, IIRC (I don't shoot road games, and they don't show the injured backups on TV). They're very legitimate medical hardship cases. I'm not sure I've ever seen Fellows dressed in 3 years on campus.

I'm not sure if he's the third, but many thought Chad Hagan might get his scholarship honored and then immediately go on a medical hardship waiver.

Connor Crowell also had a pretty devastating injury before he arrived on campus.
I can find one guy who might not get a 5th year and he was on the field on special teams and in the Michigan game so that's probably a stretch.
Not really comfortable going into this topic.

I'm with you, which is why I didn't name names but every other possible 5th year senior received plenty of snaps with either the offensive of defensive side of the ball when the game was still in doubt.

I'm pretty sure this is all gonna be done via medical waiver and transfers. If a player is eligible for a fifth year then they'll be here.

Right, personally I think 'non-renewals' are at the bottom of the list of ways they add spots. I believe the way a potential 5th year senior conducts himself in workouts, classes & around campus would be larger factors than depth chart location when it comes to retaining a scholarship.

I don't think we are far in disagreement. I just see 5 as really the upper limit. To get there 7 transfers, medicals and commit switches have to happen. To get 7 more in this class means 9. Which sounds like a lot.

From OZone's Tony Gerdeman on Tuesday when Fickell met with the media:

@GerdOzone Tony Gerdeman
Fickell confirms that Scott McVey and Melvin Fellows are medical hardships.

Many other people reported the same thing as well. Right now, if I'm counting correctly, we are at 82. I'm with you, jwins, I see five more. 2 OL (Dodson, Diamond, or O'Connor), 2 LB (Bradley, Williams, or Perkins), and an athlete (Diggs, Neal, or Caleb).

I would agree with that 100%...that's how I see the class finishing as well.

No Marcus? In your opinion too much ground to make up?

That's what I think. He's the guy I want in this class the most beside Dodson, but I think there is too much ground to make up. I believe in his last update he said he may visit tOSU the weekend before NLOID, but he wasn't sure. I think he's feeling UF right now, but we'll have to see how January turns out with the hiring of Withers. That could be a game changer for us with regards to Marcus.

Right now I could see Dodson along with one of Diamond/O'Connor.

I also see Bradley and Williams (waiting to see Marcus' response to the Withers hire...believe me I want him in this class).

And I see one of Neal/Caleb.

I don't think Winston will even visit.

Realistically, OSU could finish with Dodson, O'Connor, Bradley, Williams and Caleb. Add Dunn, Pittman, Spence and Schutt and the previous verbals and I would take that class and run. And get ready for 2013 because OSU will be doing more picking and choosing than they will recruiting...

Is it appropriate to ask who everyone would prefer if they could have only one of Neal or Caleb?

I think they are totally different players so I would prefer Neal because he fits a role that current team doesn't have much of while Caleb seems to be more in the same role as Spencer and Smith as well as fellow recruit Thomas

Thats what I was thinking too. But I wonder if we would take all 3 in Dodson, Diamond, and O'connor. I think O'connor can play both Guard and Tackle.

The more film I watch on O'Connor the more I think I'd like him in the class regardless of what Diamond does.

If we take seven then Dodson, Diamond, O'Connor, Bradley, Williams, Marcus and Neal would be a dream finish.

The reason I say 5-7, is that I don't think all of the 19 current commits are going to clear NCAA minimums. in reality our class stands at 17-18, so the final number of an additional 5-7 is not unrealistic.

EDIT: The speculation about a couple of kids struggling with grades has been out there for a while and is NOT confirmed. I wish them all the best and hope they all make the cut.
