2012 Defensive Line Discussion

D Line

We Definitely can Boost the D Line. Pressure up the middle will help the Linebackers and the speed rush from the ends will confuse the B1G QB's... hopefully, we will get a rotation as i the past, that help...:osu: :oh: :io:

Scout $ - Buckeyes Should Have New Edge In 2012

2/17; By Svoboda

Ohio State's 2011 defense wasn't bad, but it was missing big-play ability. Part of that was a lack of sacks, and one of the main reasons was OSU's inability to bring pressure off the edge. That situation should be rectified in 2012, though, as some players get healthy and others get brought in.

Although I think Spence will have the bigger impact immediately, I think Adolphus will have the biggest impact overall between the newcomers. He is a beast currently, and he hasn't even spent a full year focused on strictly football. When he gets the time to focus solely on football I think he'll become All B1G, easily.

I think that too. He only plays football from August-October, the rest of the year its Basketball. I think once Adolphus gets into the weightroom hes going to get huge and play SSDE. Spence looks ready to step in at LEO.

Just throwing it out there, but is it a consensus that Washington will stay at DE? Could he possibly put on enough weight to play inside on passing downs and we can have a d line at times of Spence, bennett, Washington and pitman/Steve miller?

I say he's a SSDE all the way, but that doesn't mean he can't play inside on passing downs. He looks like he's going to end up being a 270-285 pound end, so he should have no problem sliding inside. When the Giants go into their Nascar package, the two DT's are Jason Pierre Paul and Justin Tuck, neither of which are over 280. Pittman may be the same story.

Imagine this on 3rd downs:

DE - Steve Miller
DT - Adolphus Washington
DT - Sevon Pittman
DE - Noah Spence

Just think if guys like Mike Bennett, Kenny Hayes, Daryl Baldwin, Joel Hale, and Chase Farris continue to develop. Just a rediculous amount of talent.

And honestly, the giants d line was exactly going through my mind when I made my post. Utilizing as many pass rushers as possible and still having athleticism and strength to stop a qb that wants to tuck and run, ie: denard robinson or tahj boyd.
Our d line depth is becoming insane, I hope we continue to build upon that because that will ultimately be one of our keys to toppling the sec dynasty and winning an NC.

Switch Bennett for Pittman, and you got yourself a winning combination. Who am I kidding... Any combination is a winning combination with this personnel!

I'm a little tired of seeing comments from journalists and fans about low sack counts....

Its hard to get a sack when teams are scared to death of your pass rush and install quick hitters to avoid the pass rush. Last year we struggled, no doubt, but our pass rush has been hampered by OC's more than anything else...

I have to respectfully disagree about the "fear" of our pass rush. I felt the pass rush was practically non-existent last season. Unless OC's is something I misunderstood lol. I think Williams, Bennett, Hayes, Miller, Spence, Washington, Pittman, etc. will cause some pass rush fear though.
