2012-13 Big Ten Basketball

I think Chris Collins will take the job, if he's offered the job.

But looking at Duke assistants now: Johnny Dawkins is having an up-and-down go-around at Stanford, Tommy Amaker is doing well at Harvard, but struggled at TSUN, Quin Snyder did well at Mizzou prior to his NCAA violations. I'm probably missing a few.

For someone in their 40's, I'd figure Quin Snyder would've gotten another college shot. Those were minor violations and an major affair .

On the whole, Quin Snyder was a major underachiever at Mizzou - he was fired because of it, he most certainly did not do well there for the most part. They did get to the E8 in '02, but that's about all he had to write home about and he did it as a #12 seed because that team massively underachieved.

No former Duke assistant under K has really done a phenomenal job. I'd say Mike Brey has done the best of the lot, but that's not saying much. So I don't think Northwestern will be moving in the right direction by firing Carmody and hiring Collins.

I may get strung up for saying this, but it seems to me that B1G basketball has gotten some of the SEC football treatment this year. There are some nice OOC wins, but some pretty meh losses, too. I wasn't very thorough in browsing through the schedules, but it seems like a lot of the most impressive wins for the top 5 are against fellow B1G teams.

IU:
Beat Gtown by 10
Lost to Butler by 2
Beat UNC by 24

OSU:
Lost to Duke by 5
Lost to Kansas by 8

MSU:
Lost to Uconn by 2
Beat Kansas by 3
Lost to Miami by 8

Michigan:
Beat Pitt by 5
Beat KSU by 14
Beat NCSU by 7

Wisconsin:
Lost to Florida by 18
Lost to Creighton by 10
Lost to UVA by 6
Lost to Marquette by 10

Thoughts?

Wisky clearly has come a long way since the beginning of the season when they were reeling after the loss of Gasser. Traevon Jackson emerging into a good PG and a go-to guy for big shots late in games has been humongous for them, the difference in their season, but he didn't emerge overnight. I'm not saying they are going for a deep tourney run, but they are a lot better than the team that got routed early in the year by Florida and Creighton.

The problem with those scores and the outcome is that they were all played before the Big Ten season began and, as you well know, teams improve during the season... some more than others so those scores really are not a very good indicator of how the teams are playing currently. Also, certain teams match up better against other teams.

Not sure what to think about Wisconsin. I knew they usually got bounced early but they seemed to be playing good ball right now. After seeing that out of conference stat though... yikes.
Yeah, a lot of those early season losses are deceiving because they came at a time when Wisconsin was still figuring out their identity as a team, like a lot of other teams. I checked in on some Ole Miss boards and they're pretty confident they can beat UW based on the transitive property, as Ole Miss beat Florida who trounced the Badgers early in the season.

What a shock that the Ole Miss fans don't put any weight in their 14-point loss at Florida last month when making that logical analysis.

Colin Cowherd is using Illinois as his barometer for evaluating whether the hype of the Big Ten this year has been merited. Bizarre.

He's a troll. And he's doing that (trolling).

Doug Gottlieb, Mark May, First Take, Cris Carter are in the same boat (trolls).

I'd say don't listen to it, but from 10-1 p.m., you're limited to that or Dan Patrick (he's 9-12 p.m.) as far as national shows.

I have no problem with firing Tubby. His team played way under its talent level again. That is 3 or 4 seasons in a row you could've said that. The same thing was always said when he was at Kentucky, apart from his first season, where they won the national championship. Minnesota should be able to hire a good, young coach.

I wonder if you would be saying the same thing if they had not been a very mediocre UCLA. One win in the NCAA tournament should not save a coach's job when his team has not performed all season.
It's Minnesota though. They have limits and they had a coach who has a national championship ring. Minnesota is better now then when Tubby was first hired. I can accept Tubby being fired if they hit a homerun on the hire which would be Shaka, Flip Saunders, maybe Enfield or Howland.
