2012-13 Big Ten Basketball

Minny is safe.

Look at the bubble this year, it's soft as all hell, Minny has a few quality wins that mean a lot more.

Bingo. When the tournament expanded to 68 teams, only teams that are total trash end up on the bubble. Minny (about to finish the regular season 20-11 and 8-10 in conference) is safe, which is a testament to how bad it's gotten. People who think the NCAA tournament field should be expanded further are on crack.

Yea I don't like the 68 teams not only is the bubble really weak but we have to call the first round the "second" round now. Why can't the play in games just be called the opening round?

The "Opening Round" made it seem more like it wasn't part of the tournament, and I think some complained about it having those sort of overtones. I have made the adjustment - I think the best way to refer to those early rounds accurately and have it applicable over the entire 64+ team era is to do it by number of teams in the round (other than the First Four, which has 8 teams but 4 games so I am OK with calling it the First Four), so there is the First Four, Round of 64, Round of 32, then Sweet 16, Elite 8, Final Four and NC game. The fact that what used to be the first round is now the "second round" ... I just can't use the labels first round and second round anymore.

Wisconsin was very very lucky today. Jackson throws up a prayer and it was answererd. Bucky is not playing very good basketball as the season starts to wind down.

Purdue looks like a better team at this point. They've been playing well the last couple weeks.

I'm routinely impressed with Coach Painter.

He's done a hell of a job still getting those kids to compete when it seems like they have quit before. It's not been pretty, but that's a damn good coaching job this year in a tough situation, in my opinion.

I have to question the Big Ten giving UW such an easy schedule these past 2 years. They got two games with Penn State again, in spite of the fact that they have had two games with PSU every year since 2005 (while on the other hand OSU has now had one game with PSU 4 of the past 6 years). Instead of the 1-play with PSU that they deserved, they got a 1-play with UM who had played OSU twice a year every year since 2005 (UM last played the Badgers once in 2007). It may be an odd coincidence, but missing UM and IU twice each of the past 2 years - two of the top-5 teams in the league each year - has been a boon for the Badgers in the standings. Funny how the schedule always seems to favor the Badgers compared to many of the other teams in the league.

If the Big Ten was building a list of the teams that OSU were most "due" for a 1-play against next year, they should draw from the pool of UM, IN, IL, UW, and MSU/NW - in that order. Fat chance OSU gets a 1-play against those first four teams.

Stole this off of the MSU site. Not much of a chance of playing on Thursday now

Gotta hand it to the MSU folks. They got it right.

Having the #2 seed in the tourny is huge... and what might be bigger for Ohio State is that 4 of the 5 B1G teams that beat us in the regular season are in the other half of the bracket.

Buckeyes in the top 10 of the AP as of now going into the tournament. Very easily could end up no worse than a #3 seed in the dance. I think we'll take that.

Come on Gonzaga's bracket!!

I've seen Ohio State start to get into more of the 2-seed range, especially with Lunardi.

If that's the case, they'll be sent out west with Gonzaga maybe...

I hope you are not too impressed with him come Friday because in all likelihood we are going to have to put them back in their place:wink:

Incredible: Four Big Ten teams in the top 10 of the Final AP Poll during the regular season. (3. IU, 6. UM, 8. MSU, 10. OSU).
