2011 TSUN shenanigans and arguments (off season)

Michigan is having a good recruiting year. I don't know how we can make fun of them for doing exactly what we're doing, which is trying to undersell their class.

The only thing I will say on the recruiting front is that it is amazing Ohio State is able to put together any class right now to compare to Michigan's... considering everything that has gone on. If I were a Michigan fan, I would be concerned about that. This should have been their year to have the substantial gap that we have enjoyed over the past couple of years of recruiting.

Speaks more to the volume of Ohio talent in my IMO. But even with "all that went on" with osu, it doesn't look like anything major is going to come out of it. It's not like gaining Urban Meyer was a real blow to osu's stature.......
If by "all that went on" you mean a few guys trading trinkets for tats and a coach not reporting it (for reasons that are debatable), then no, nothing is going to come of it. Generally you need major violations to receive major penalties, even though ESPiN and the delutional people up north would like it to be worse than it is.

I agree. IMO Hoke has proven he can coach and recruit. That is a real 10-2 record regardless of the schedule (only two wins by less than a TD). He got his recruiting class off to a fast start and whipped OSU on recruiting battle after battle. The potential loss of Dunn was very real and the impression that UM was rising and OSU was sinking was palpable.

No way would I have bet you a month ago that OSU would land a stronger class than UM - but we are going to do precisely that. It is happening with such speed and such drama that it may do more harm to UM than if OSU had never taken a dive (real or perceived) and UM had quietly built their program over time.

This is going to be a war for years to come. But it is UM who is now scrambling for the entrenching tools.

The biggest thing Hoke needs to prove is his ability to sustain success. Up until this point he hasn't done a whole hell of a lot. Sure he's had some pretty good recruiting classes, but how much of that weighs on the fact that Ohio State's gone through some (light) turmoil. There was some insecurity with the HC position, but that's all changed now. We have our coach, he's got a GREAT resume, he's arguably the best recruiter in college football (in football in general for that matter). So let's see if the Hokester can keep up his success while the new sheriff is in town.

What seems more probable to you;

Urban Meyer produces a reasonable facsimile of the success he's produced at every stop along his coaching career, specifically the recruiting success he demonstrated at UF........

or

..............Brady Hoke making the annual lynchpin of his recruiting class an Ohio kid that was an OSU commit then backed out because of the perceived fallout from Tatgate?

Not really trying to compare him against Hoke. I was more meaning ths huge sucess we're having right now.....I'm just tempering my expectations that we will consistently land this caliber until it happens regularly.

I'll still believe all these kids land where they say when they actually fax in the LOI. There could still be some last minute surprises, on both fronts. You just never know with kids today

The only wild card in this years class, IMO, is Kalis. And that's a HUGE long shot. But I can see Kalis seeing Ohio State climbing the recruiting rankings and wondering, "what if?"

I think Bri'onte is now happy with where Ohio State is heading, and won't move. It's definitely going to be fun watching these two coaches battle it out in the next few years. That's for sure.

Yup, like I said a number of pages ago - Kyle said he wanted to go to Michigan so he didn't have to pay for the mistakes of the Tat5

Well, as it turns out Kyle is going to pay for those mistakes quite dearly if he decides he wants to stick with Fred Flinstone and company.

Kalis ain't coming back. He's gone to The Dark Side.
We'll be OK with what we'll get.

I know, I was just saying in response to LOLverineMike's post about nothing being definite until that LOI is faxed in. Best possibility of a switch would be out of the guy who's already switched once. Not saying he will, just saying that's who I'd guess would switch if anyone did between these two recruiting classes.

Meh - It's not like I have a choice in the matter, but if he did want to switch back to Ohio State, I'd take him.

But, that said - I'd have some misgivings about the "cut and run" mentality displayed when he switched his verbal.

?When i was looking for in a football program is the type of environment that their program presents to their players. Everything From OSU's weight room to the Shoe is just amazing and I wouldn't want to be anywhere else and I've always known that. Ohio State is just the perfect program for me and I feel its the perfect place to succeed at.?

You sure about that, Kyle?

I'm not gonna over do it here - he certainly had to make the best choice for him, and when he did switch, frankly it was probably a good decision at the time. If I had my way, he would have waited to see what happened (ie been a "soft verbal") But... as it is.. all I really see is a young guy who said all the right things re: Ohio State, but didn't really mean them.

"I wouldn't want to be anywhere else and I've always known that"

So... if that's true, how do you end up at Michigan?

"Meatball Hogie" Hoke sends his regards. IMO, he began the war between Meyer and him. Let's see if he has the fortitude to beat UFM at what he's best at. The 2013 recruiting class will be very telling of things to come from both schools.

Beyond the fact that Kalis was (a long time ago) a Buckeye commitment (a loose term obviously), there is no reason to think he would even consider flipping back.

Besides, isn't he an early enrollee? Seems a little late in the game to flip him anyway.

In other words, He Gone. (too bad too, because he's gonna be a good one)

We've got a few nice prospects to fill the void left by him... Plus I'm sure the 2013 class will feature the best OL recruits since UFM has more time to develop relationships with these players.
