I'm already on record saying it but I'll do it again, this guy is going to do much better than people think. He's up against it the first couple of years but he is going to be successful.

The all in crowd, who think that RR is a genius/great coach, think this guy sucks. That tells me he's hoisting trophies inside of 5 years.

Outback bowl trophies maybe...which is still a significant upgrade. I have a hard time believing he's going to be winning the Big Ten within five years when their program is behind half the league in terms of their personel and depth. He's a nice coach, but he's not better than Tressel, Ferentz, Bielema, Dantonio, Fitzgerald or Pelini. The guy never won the MAC or MWC and only came close to winning either once. Nice coach, safe hire, if they give him 10 years I'll say one maybe two Big Ten titles.

Some quotes from that article:

I'd rather have Rich Rodriguez entering year four with a new defensive staff than this, a total capitulation. Does anyone remember Tressel's record against Lloyd Carr? 5-1. Change was necessary. It didn't work, but that doesn't mean you go back to the stuff that required change.
Does anyone remember Tressel's record against RichRod? 3-0. And I don't remember any 30+ point blow outs under LLLLLoyd's watch.

We're unhappy, so they'll defend Brady Hoke to their dying single-sentence paragraph. This would have been a fascinating dynamic to watch if Miles was the guy. Seeing Rosenberg paper over Miles's oversigning hijinks would have been hilarious/infuriating. Since it's Hoke it will just be generic "why can't you be happy going 9-3 every year and beating OSU 30% of the time, I mean look at Rodriguez!"
I guess that 15-22 and beating OSU 0% of the time would be preferable....

With the dual boosts of a pliant media and cooperative network of former players plus a program that should find itself on an upward trajectory instead of a downward one, everything's set up for him to look like the white knight who "saved" the program and ride that to something approximating success. Michigan's just thrown in the towel on being a national power but this could be Nebraska after Callahan instead of Notre Dame after Davie.
So now the fans are mad that the media and former players are supporting the head coach?

Seriously, the Michigan fan base is completely unhinged right now, and they may never recover. Hoke will probably be Michigan's Earle Bruce - a guy who will consistently win about 9 games a year and stick around for a decade or so - but what's wrong with that, at least compared to the guy they just fired. I honestly don't see any evidence that RichRod was on the verge of accomplishing anything special at Michigan ... well, nothing special in a good sort of way.

From the perspective of an Ohio State fan, there were only three bad moments during the RichRod regime:

1. September 27, 2008 - Michigan squanders a 19-point halftime deficit and beats Wisconsin to avoid a 10-loss season.

2. September 26, 2009 - Michigan fails to choke in the final minutes and beats Indiana, narrowly missing a winless Big Ten campaign.

3. November 6, 2010 - Michigan becomes the first AQ team in history to give up 65 points and win a game, preventing a third straight losing season.

Other than that, it was all good as far as I'm concerned. But a large portion of the Michigan fan base wanted even more of the same...?

They will be absolutely awful for the first 3 years, at least. No amount of coaching can consistently win with the roster they have. I'm wondering if the admins will have enough patience to keep him around if they go 3-9, 4-8, 5-7 for the first 3 seasons.

They have no choice.

Hell, Earl Bruce wouldn't be so bad compared to the entire history of their football program.

Despite all the arrogance and bullshit from up north, they have only managed one loss or fewer 3 times ('85, '92, '97) over the last thirty years.

Even if you go further back, they had a run of 1 loss seasons ('73 no losses with a tie to OSU) during Bo's first decade, but before that, they managed a single season with 1 loss between 1948 and 1970.

Winningest program of all time and all that fucking bullshit was established in the early 20th century, everything after that has been Earl Bruce.

So yeah, fuck them. Earl Bruce has been their historical standard. It is a testament to their arrogance and stupidity that they expect anything different.

If Hoke can somehow get a couple decent defensive recruits during these few weeks up to NLOID and recruits as well as I think he will for the 2012 and 2013 classes, I think he can go 8-4 or maybe 9-3 by his third year. If DickRod can go 7-5 in his third year, I expect CowHoke to match that as a minimum...

in talking to Auburn fans, they seem to think Borges was a fine cooridinator who suffered due to lack of talent towards the end. They think Tubberville simply started mailing it in and Borges did the best with what he could.

Auburn fan perspective anyway

Early indications suggest quarterback Tate Forcier will not be returning to Michigan for his junior season, according to WDFN-AM's Ryan Ermanni.

Ermanni reports Forcier, who was declared academically ineligible for the Gator Bowl, did not attend Tuesday's team meeting and is currently not enrolled in winter semester classes. There is no official deadline for enrollment, according to the university's registrar's office -- although Jan. 25 as the final date to add classes.

Michigan athletic director David Brandon confirmed during Wednesday's press conference that Forcier is no longer with the program.

Michigan running back Mike Cox told the Michigan Daily that "he didn't think" Forcier attended the team meeting, amid unconfirmed message board speculation Forcier is transferring to the University of Montana.

News of Forcier's possible transfer comes less than a day after Brady Hoke was hired as the new Michigan football coach. Hoke was introduced as the Wolverines coach in a news conference Wednesday afternoon.

Michigan announced that it declared Forcier ineligible two days prior to the Gator Bowl for not meeting university standards. Forcier told the Detroit Free Press that he had struggled academically, which likely forced him to miss summer workouts.

"I was behind in school, a lot of people don't know. I had to catch up on credits to be eligible. It's what I did in the summer. That didn't come out," Forcier told the Free Press. "Oh, I wasn't going to workouts. But that helped me, too. That made me realize you're not going to be good just getting by."

Forcier reportedly needed to pass 14 credits in the fall semester to remain eligible. Fall grades were released in early January. He had previously indicated his intention to transfer, but said last month that he didn't "see myself being anywhere else," the Free Press reported.

Forcier started all 12 games as a freshman but was bypassed as this year's starter by sophomore quarterback Denard Robinson. Forcier played in eight games this past season, throwing for 597 yards and four touchdowns while Robinson was sidelined with multiple injuries.

Robinson, who has been quiet regarding his future with Michigan, is expected to meet with Hoke today. Following Michigan's loss to Mississippi State on Jan. 1, Robinson was asked by The Detroit News if he planned to return for his junior season if Rich Rodriguez was fired.

"No response," Robinson was quoted by The Detroit News.

Freshman quarterback Devin Gardner, who has petitioned for a medical redshirt, is expected to return next season for the Wolverines.
