oh yeah, the whole redshirt thing is very shady IMO.......but what's the worst that can happen in two years? they apply for it and get denied. Oh well.

Yep. Just consider him a sophomore (as he is) and there'll be no cause for disappointment should he be denied the medical redshirt.

The spring game is on BTN right now. Robinson busts a 40+ yard run in the first series and a running back busts a 60+ yard TD on the second drive.

I find it hilarious that their fans still cheer for big plays on offense in the spring game while their defense looks really bad.

those are pretty much the only big plays on offense.....

really? because Vincent Smith just caught a five yard curl right in front of two defenders and took it for 30+ yards... but it was a pass so I guess that isn't as embarrassing

also, is the reason the offense doesn't have many big plays because they are passing the ball way more than running?

finally, Bike Hart interviewed on the sideline and says tradition is everything at Michigan, which I found humorous, tradition is huge at Ohio State too, but the current success is pretty sweet as well

Gardner chucks a 40 yard bomb that would have been intercepted against almost any secondary in D1 football, but Kovacs manages to get turned around and fall down and give up another big play

I might be in the minority here but it would not surprise me at all to see Michigan have no improvement over last season.

Last year they have a team with a good offense and a terrible defense.

This year they have a team with a terrible offense and a terrible defense.

Am I missing something here?

Personally, I suspect they'll be better. I don't think they have a conference championship-contending roster on their hands, and I know next to nothing about Brady Hoke, but there was no excuse for them going 7-17 in the conference over the past three years. I don't care how "bare" Lloyd Carr ostensibly left "the cupboard"; they out-recruit half the conference just by saying their name. If Brady Hoke is merely sensible, they will improve. They're not going to win the conference championship (I'd wager some money on that), but they will be improved this year. It's bound to happen by default.

We'll see what their record ends up, but I don't know that improvement will necessarily be show in Ws this year anyway. If they do as well as '10 or slightly worse (I'm not sold that their O is going to be particularly good right now and the D is still horrid.) But... that said, I do think Hoke knows what he's doing and Michigan is turning it's course towards competence once more.

My predictions aren't worth much, but in my opinion, the only reason they may not improve on last season's record is because their schedule is substantially tougher. In my view, their offense wasn't all that great last season (it looked good in a certain statistical light, but it wasn't a winning offense - turnovers and red zone meltdowns more than countered the yardage stats). The stats will diminish, but it will be a better offense this year, and the defense will improve as well. They've got holes galore on defense, by elite program standards, but they didn't have to be as bad as they've been. They'll improve from atrocious to mediocre on defense. And become a consistently ok team. Which is better than they were last year. If the record's not better (which I think it might be) it will only be because of the tougher schedule. Or at least that's what I would project.

The OL is worse than last year. Yeah Lewan didn't play in the spring game but Barnum, Khoury, and Mealer looked bad. Theres a huge dropoff from the 1st and 2nd string. The replacements for Schilling and Dorrenstein are a step down.

LB is definately a weakness...MLB especially. Look at the 70 yard run by COX. My goodness the MLB was ran over.

The CB's are horrible with the ball in the air. They get turned around and panic.

The defensive statistics will probably look better because they will run a conventional offense. IMO the defense looked a little better at safety, worse at linebacker, same at CB and DL.

The OL is worse and it will hurt Michigan this year. They also look like fish out of water running pro set stuff.

Schedule is tougher and I think they take a step back on offense because of the OL. The Special Teams look more like Special ED. The defense will give up big plays just like the last few years.

5-1 in the best case scenario I'd say...

I would expect ND gets the "2nd year bump" under Kelly.

San Diego State isn't a bad team (thanks to Hoke) they'll obviously be familiar with Hoke's system and will be dieing to spring the upset.

Northwestern is no easy game for them either.
