I watched their Spring game this morning. Gardner threw picks on consecutive plays at one point, and Denard had two turnovers negated by penalties.

The secondary made some plays on the ball, but they still had some real problems with tackling and pursuit angles.

Both FG attempts were missed, and the punts only had 3 guys on the field: snapper, punter, and a 'return' man. It was comical when the announcer said something about how special teams were being stressed.

Wow, their QB play looks horrific. But, that's to be expected implimenting a totally different scheme from the one they ran for 3 years.

The defense looks more aggressive, but man, they look small.

Their fans look miserable too.

Bacala has to do some serious recruiting...

...and that's to say nothing of the fact that Big Will (you know, the guy they're resting their entire defense on this fall) was getting absolutely worked every single running play I saw. I mean, if you're a d-lineman, how many times in a row can you allow yourself to get pushed 8-9 yards downfield?

When Cooper was fired he left JT a core of talent that went on to win a NC and then set an NFL record for total players taken in an 8 round draft. Tress added an historic freshman class, taught them all to win and the rest is history.

Bobby Bacala looks in the cupboard and its not just bare, the little bit of stuff he does have aren't ingredients he (or anyone else) knows how to cook with. Junior Soprano is screaming for some home made gravy and Bobby has a couple of jars of some wierd Jamaican jerk sauce to work with.

Its been said many times but it always bears repeating, the beauty of the RR hire was the near 1:1 ratio between his tenure and years the new guy will be behind the 8 ball rebuilding the roster. RR will be a 3 year disaster for the scUM record books but in reality it will be more like 6-7 (and then you get to find out if Bacala is really worth a shit or not).

Add to that an impatient fan base that may not give Flintstone the time to unfuck the program and it could easily be a decade.

So is Devin a soph or redshirt frosh? Matt Shepard, who's a Michigan fan who works in Detroit, called him a soph on the broadcast but I thought he was awarded a medical redshirt last year. Anybody know for sure?

Not decided until after his senior year.

The other noteworthy thing I got from watching the scrimmage was their defense running some zone blitzes, and more than once Campbell was the only D-lineman that dropped back into pass coverage, with all the LBs rushing. They did it out of a Bear look - it would be entertaining to watch a draw play make it through the line and have Campbell as the only guy in the middle of the field trying to prevent a 20+ yard gain.

the status of his redshirt won't be decided until after his senior year. That according to the AD. So right now he's considered a sophmore

Did he play during his freshman year? If he did, he's a sophomore. If he didn't, he's a RS freshman. No decision needed.

He played in the first four games but then nothing after that because he was "injured." They're going to apply for a medical redshirt after his fourth year.

Did they ever say what was injured? Maybe his ego since a WR took the staring QB spot over him last year?

Back spasms or something equally stupid.

It was fairly obvious Rodriguez was trying to pull his usual sleaze ball BS to get a year back once he realized he had a good thing going with Robinson at QB.

He's still a sophomore then, eligibility-wise. Michigan can apply for a medical redshirt for his freshman year after his normal eligibility is used up, but until then his eligibility clock keeps ticking. His freshman year is a used year until the NCAA restores it.

He was so injured that he never appeared on the injury report (at least when the supposed injury occurred), kept traveling with the road squad (despite having two very capable QBs) on a team in need of as many defenders as possible.
