This just is not true... he had 2 bad days at practice, but yes he has his hand's full because Devin is ready to play right now. Denard and Devin both have been very good this spring, going to be interesting.

We'll be the judge of that after they play against a real defense. A middle schooler could look very good against your defensive product.

We know, we know--things are so great up in scUM land that there are two Heisman-worthy QBs battling it out, right? :roll2:. GMAFB. If Hoke puts DR under center this year, then he's even more of a clown than I already think he is.

I personally would like to see Devin start and Denard used in a Parcy Harvin type role. Denard is one of the best players in the Big Ten but he is an athlete playing qb. Denard struggled yesterday in the scrimmage especially with taking snaps.

Many UM fans bring up many flawed rebuttals to this argument:

1) No backup if he switches: if he isn't cut out for a pro style system, then putting your best weapon on the bench just in case is pretty foolish. If he moves to a harvin type role and then Devin gets hurt, he can always move back and run a simplified offense.

2) Durability: he got hurt because RR risked 35-50 hits a game without a suitable alternative to run the ball, and because he didn't run the read option very well. For much of the season they predesignated the reads before the half, and his most effective runs were when all ten men headed upfield as blockers.

He can definitely handle 12-18 touches a game. Just don't mistake him for mike hart, though even he broke down with an overload of carries every week.

3) Why move the best offensive weapon - because he struggled a lot against the quality teams on UM's schedule, often digging the team too big a hole too escape in the second half

I've been watching the scUM spring game. Let's just say they are only really moving the ball when they are in the shotgun-type formations. Every time they try to line up in a more traditional set they get less than 3 yards when they try to run it.

Their defense doesn't look greatly improved either or at least that's my impression.

Denard can't drop back from under center and throw anything resembling an accurate pass. I'm actually surprised at how poorly he's looked in a scrimmage setting. Quite unsettling if I'm a UM fan. Defense has looked poor as well, in my imo. Poor tackling and angles again by a Michigan defense.

Why? did you see him last year when he was forced to make reads? Kid is electric on the move and when required to improvise. When he's expected to sit in the pocket and read defenses, he was terrible. Now he's learning an entirely different system. I actually wouldn't be surprised if Gardner wins the job and they design some special sets just for hairlice. The kid is an explosive and exciting athlete, but that's about it. In a spread-option offense, he's a legitimate weapon. In the kind of offense they're trying to install, he's a liability.

I agree with everything. He was terrible last year in similar situations. I've thought for a while that Robinson does win the starting job. I guess I was expecting just an ounce of improvement out of him. He looked flat awful from what I saw. Just flat worse than I was expecting. I mean really fucking bad.

Wow, their QB play looks horrific. But, that's to be expected implimenting a totally different scheme from the one they ran for 3 years.

The defense looks more aggressive, but man, they look small.

Their fans look miserable too.

Bacala has to do some serious recruiting...

good thing i'm use to long seasons........
Eh, you guys might not be very good this year, but I think the days of being embarrassed nearly every week are over. At least Bacala and his staff will teach those kids how to tackle....and your QB might not get broken every game too. So you have that going for you, which is nice.

When a Hoke team has a bad outing, he flat out admits it. No more of the ridiculous "well we play better in practice" excuses.

There is a major difference in ownership of the weaknesses and problems that he is facing.

That in addition to far better recruiting - royce Jenkins stone just verballed and the Ohio recruiting is infinitely better - and a system built for this league will get things turned around
