BN $ - Buckeye Recruiting To Bank On: DB's

3/31

By The Bank...six names (four with offers, two without) that seem the most realistic...Doran Grant, Ron Tanner, Jeremy Cash, Wayne Lyons, Jabari Gorman, Eilar Hardy and Gerrod Holliman.

isn't that 7

I haven't read anything (didn't read Banks article) that would make me feel confident about Lyons, Gorman or Holliman.

Give me Grant, Cash, Tanner and Hardy along with Gambrell and I'll be very happy.

I love where OSU stands at DB and S. In a doomsday scenario where Grant went to Michigan St and all the Florida boys stayed home, I still think Gambrell, Tanner, Williamson, and Hardy are outstanding prospects. If think OSU will probably take 5 secondary players (3 safeties, 2 corners). I like OSU's chances of landing Cash, Tanner, and Gambrell at safety along with Grant and Williamson at DB.

With the verbal from Brown does this mean that the Buckeyes are finished recruiting guys specifically for the OL or are some of these guys end up on the DL and does it also mean that some of the guys who have been offered as strictly OL will no longer be recruit and we will strictly be going after guys who can go either way or maybe are more defensive line oriented:huh:

There's a pretty decent shot at that. A writer for Scout (and GT fan) said UGA/OSU/Texas are out front a little of the others, so that's about as good as you can hope for this early for a 5* OOS recruit.
Vaughters is Andre Amos' cousin,FWIW, and his parents are both from Ohio. Good connections.

I think that
A-Underwood will at least get a cameo at DT

B-Mangiro is still wanted by the staff

C-Walker might need to hurry his timetable up if he wants to become a Buckeye-he might not be allowed to play the usual "Glenville game" and wait until late January or so to commit. See Jonathon Newsome for reference.

D-as far as the DL goes, keep recruiting Bennett and McReynolds full bore, and, assuming one of those two commit, go after a pure, fast LEO type to round out the class, IF the staff decides they want another DL. Hayes could end up at DE or DT, Farris, the same, although he probably plays DT, and Miller is a weakside/LEO end.

Bennett and Walker remain top targets and are planned on as part of this class.

After that I would think the staff would at least be open to one more OL/DL wildward like Mangiro or a 5 star edge rusher.

But more than likely Bennett gets on board before the summer's out and Walker does the Glenville thing and committs sometime in January and we call it a day. What a haul!

Funny how one guy might make a big impact on the numbers of the next year's class, but I keep thinking about how it depends on where Darryl Baldwin ends up. Right now, it seems as if he's a strong side DE, so the Bucks might be done here if Farris and Hayes both remain here. But, let's say Baldwin slides down to DT. Bennett appears to be #1 regardless, and I can't see them saying no to a talent like McReynolds, and you still have Underwood, so you would be done there. Just for fun, let's move Baldwin to tight end, do you take one less tight end this year? Koyack and Vannett are the first choices, but there are a lot of rumblings of the Bucks putting feelers out to several others. Baldwin to TE might cancel out somebody here. And what if Baldwin bulks up and plays offensive tackle? You've got Norwell already in the same class, who knows how big Fragel is going to get, throw in Brown and, maybe, Walker, and a position once very thin, now has some depth to it. Oh yeah, I forgot that some people think that Farris may end up there too. A lot of different scenarios could play out. Of course, there is another theory. Just grab the best guys out there who want to be Buckeyes, and let it sort itself out during practice.

The McReynolds talk to me is moot at this point...regardless of what he tells OSU reporters, most think he will end up on the east coast region. My guess is either PSU or UNC. We are likely looking at Bennett and one other, though I'm not sure who at this point. Looks as if the staff is passing on Williams...I still think Tommy Brown will get a look. With Farris being told DL (I personally liked him better as a tackle prospect), I think the DL will be wrapped up once we get another DT to go with Bennett, barring either a 5 star can't miss type DE. On that note, that would be a tough sell with Miller and Hayes in (see Aaron Lynch).

Edit: Looks like Brown did get a look :) But for OL primarily.

I think you are absolutely correct on McReynolds. However, after Bennett and Walker, I believe we'll be done on the lines with either Underwood or Brown getting a look at DT. I like Underwood there a lot, but I like him at Guard too with those great feet and how he can move. We'll see... I just can't wait to get Bennett locked up because he's the biggest get of all these linemen (no offense to these other fine and talented players :))

I tend to agree (I posted this before seeing we landed Brown). If/when we get Walker, I think one of Underwood or Brown plays DT eventually, imo Brown. After Walker, I would doubt that we take anyone unless it it a Landon Turner or McReynolds type. Agreed on Bennett too, I wouldn't be surprised to see him contend for 5 star status by the time rankings are done...top 100 bare minimum.
