2010 TSUN News (in-season)

the only splash Hoke will make is if his fat ass falls into a pool.

I find it laughable that scUMmers are still so arrogant as to think that their program is too good for Hoke. I understand wanting Harbaugh more, but if UM fans really wouldn't trade RR and that cluster[censored] that he's turned the program into for Hoke, they're ridiculous.

No they are not there yet, but they have the potential to be as good as both of those kid's and probably even better. Lewan is way ahead of where Jake Long was when he was a redshirt freshman at Michigan, and I would aruge Devin is the best quarterback on our roster right now. I know you will probably take this as me hyping up another UofM QB, but people don't realize how special Devin is.
Better than a two-time consensus All American, two-time Big Ten Offensive Lineman of the Year, and number one pick in the NFL draft? Not just "better", but "way ahead"? Okay, I guess that you don't really care too much about your credibility around here....

Don't quote me and then act like you're just talking about people in general. If you want to attack me, so be it, i'm a big boy. I can defend my posts.

Since you are asking some semblance of a question mixed in with weak attempt at trying to make me look "arrogant," i'll answer.......

Harbaugh wouldn't even be my number 1 choice. Don't lump us all together in the mindset that JH is going to walk on water here and turn UM around in a matter of months.

As for Hoke, simply put, as a head coach in 8 seasons he has a losing record. 46-50 overall at Ball St and San Diego State

5 out of 8 seasons he's had a losing record. 6 out of 8 seasons he hasn't won more than 7 games.

The guy doesn't impress me and the ONLY reason his name is being thrown around Ann Arbor is the simple fact he was DL coach at UM in the late 90's.

He has some up side in that he is a fine recruiter, something that has definitely been lacking the last three years, but I would like to see a someone with better coaching experience at the helm as well.

I have nothing to be arrogant about. The program is in a shit storm right now. But lucky for you, I can still give my opinion on who I think deserves the job, and who I think doesn't. Does my opinion matter to anybody but me? Not really, but it's just my opinion. I've never claimed to be some sort of football guru.

Trust me, if somebody gets hired that I don't agree with, I'm still going to cheer my ass off and hope anything I've said about them is proven wrong. But no, Hoke is not on my short list of coaches I would like to see replace Rich Rod.

And on the topic of Rich Rod. If for some reason he is retained, which I now think would be the wrong decision, I'll still root for him to win and turn it around.

why do Michigan fans have such a problem with Hoke?

I just answered......I don't have a personal problem with him, I would just rather see someone with a better track record come in. The program is in a tailspin right now. Taking shots in the dark at "Michigan Men" is not what we need.

The only "Michigan Man" qualified for the chance is JH, and I still think he's a little green. But it's probably now or never with him in my IMO

So who is on your short list? Sorry if it's already in this thread...I might have missed it. Just curious to hear...

Michigan needs to move heaven and earth to get Harbaugh.

it'll be a rough couple of years, but the upside is pretty tremendous.

He's a perfect fit for Michigan. Hard nosed, no BS, big name, Alum, great coach.

Letting him get away would be a long-term disaster for Michigan.

If anyone can pull Michigan out of the tailspin they are in, it's him.

Hoke has twice been hired at bad programs and turned them into winners: Ball State hadn't been to a bowl since 1996 and he took them to two in a row, including winning their division; at SDSU he took over Chuck Long's pathetic program and got them to their first bowl game since 1998.

If scUM is looking for a guy to take over for a terrible coach and return them to respectability, Brady Hoke would probably not be an awful choice.

After watching the Rose Bowl, my #1 target would be Patterson at TCU. Probably a huge long shot, but what's the worst he could say? If not him, I guess if they were to go with a younger hot shot, a la what osu did with Tress, maybe Patterson D-coordinator, Bumpas.

If we want to try and utilize the players we have right now most effectively, I don't see the harm in making a run at Peterson at Boise. While I think he's a bit overrated because of the schedules he's played, his teams still seem to be defensively sound year in and year out. His offense probably doesn't fit Denard the best because it seems more of a pass first type, but overall, with what we have on the roster I think it would be fairly seemless. I also think Peterson at some point is going to have to get out of the BSU shadow and into a major program.

Going by that logic, even Mike Belotti would be worth a look

Long shot would be Fitzgerald from Northwestern. Doubt he would leave his Alma Matter, but you never know. He's definitely the second best coach in the conference.

Even Mizzous coach is worth a look and the DC from VaTech.

Those are some of the guys that I personally would like to have a run at. Probably in the order of Patterson, Peterson, Fitzgerald, Bumpas, then Belotti.

I won't shake a stick at Harbaugh either, i'm just listing guys outside of what everyone else wants.

I think the lesson to learn from the Tressel hire, especially considering what Dantonio has been able to do with RichRod screwing things up at scUM, is that in-state recruiting ties are absolutely vital for building up or maintaining a football program.

I don't see even a remote comparison between Tressel and a Bumpas-type.

and I never said he would be awful, he just isn't my preference.

It also wasn't until his 5th season at Ball State that he won 7 games. and his 6th season that he had the break through. You'll just have to excuse me if after the last three seasons, i'm a bit impatient......

I see what you're saying. My comparison was meant as more of a hire of a lesser known coach. But I understand what you mean about recruiting.

You got no shot at any of those guys.

You couldn't pry Patterson or Bumpas out of TCU with a crowbar and a stick of dynamite. Same for Petersen at Boise.

I can't see Fitz moving away from his Alma Mater to an in-conference rival.

OK, maybe you got a shot at Bellotti if he wants to get back into coaching, but I don't see that happening.
