2010 TSUN arguments & shenanigans (in-season)

Not true at all. He's been extraordinary, but a number of his long runs were the result of bad pursuit angles and horrific tackling. I've seen every game but umass and I've seen it countless times...just like you'd expect from NoD, BGSU, FCS and IU type teams. His speed is what sets him apart. Sparty's a little better, but still prone to breakdowns. It gets interesting next week against Iowa.

I think Mike was saying what Denard does on offense doesn't have anything to do with how much the MICHIGAN defense sucks.

I think WolverineMike was pointing out that Denard being great doesn't have to do with how bad the Wolverine Defense is, not necessarily the opposition's defense.

I haven't seen much of Denard in action, just the highlights (which are extensive). He is electric and should be the front-runner for many awards currently, as sickening as that is to say. There is probably going to be some suffering heading to Ann Arbor soon, but its hard to say if Denard won't be any less amazing.

From what I've seen though, I have to agree that the defenses he's faced aren't nearly of even an average caliber. They are strictly some of the most porous defenses nationally. Is the Wolverine's o-line capable of keeping up their zone-block scheme against defensive lines that have as much talent as the rest of the Big Ten has? I have no idea what TSUN's o-line talent is at, but maybe its a strength right now. I just wonder what the perception is out there about the ability of Michigan to continue with success on that QB sweep play that they run. Its not even an option, its just straight Denard and then some good blocking.

But Michigan's defense does play a small part in his success. The other team can march down the field and score having not taken a lot of time of the clock. Why is that important? If gives Denard more touches. A great defense by scum would give him more touches however Scum would be up big after the half and Denard would have his butt sitting on the bench most of the 2nd half. By keeping the other team in it, Denard gets more touches throughout the game....

However if he goes down for any expanded period of time, Scum could be in a world of hurt. The same could be said for us if we lose TP, however our "D" allows us to play "Treselball" the whole game and still win comfortably.

Of course, at this point in the JT era, we have all been conditioned to think anything >1 is winning comfortably.

:wink2:

Yes it does. The only reason Robinson is putting up these astronomical numbers is because his defense sucks. Usually when a guy puts up 300 yards and 4 TDs by half, his team is winning by a shitload and he takes a seat on the pine. The fact that scUM's defense is so putrid, allows him to stay on the field in close games.

Pryor has missed almost a full game sitting out garbage time. If those were close games, he would probably have another 300+ yards of offense and several more touchdowns.

The nard dog missed almost a full game with some kind of labia tear against BG

So, they've run up numbers against the #51, 88, 89, and 119 total defenses and an Umass (#43 FCS)...quite the murderers row.

TP by contrast has run into the 98th(Marshall), 12th (Miami), 37th (Illini), 40th (Ohio), and 112th (E. Scum) for an average of 60 (where UTEP curently resides).

Denard's average against FBS defenses is an outstanding 87 (Ball St.) I didn't factor in UMass's defense in there.....

Throw out the each programs worst total defense opponent and OSU drops to 48th (were Colorado curently resides), and Scum is 76 (Northwestern).

I'm really shocked they haven't had more injuries on defense. Considering the number of plays run against them so far with their lack of depth at pretty much every position, I can't see how they will make it to Michigan week with anything left in the tank defensively.

They won't. It's the same as the past two seasons, just magnified this year because of so many long scores. They will be ground down to stubs in the next couple of weeks.
