2010 tOSU Defensive Line Discussion

This line is a lot like the '02 line in that everyone brings something a little different to the table, and everyone forms an integral part of the line. Heyward and Simon are like Peterson and Scott, they all can play inside or outside. Williams is the '10 counterpart to Will Smith, a speedy passrusher that coaches like to move around. And Larimore is a rock inside like Anderson was. As the season progresses and guys like Hankins, Thomas, Goebel and Bellamy get better with each rep, this line could truly end up as the best in the Tress era.

This is a great point. The teams that play in January are the ones who have difference makers and quality depth, especially on the defensive front. Heyward and Williams are just a whisker away from making those impact sacks, and both have made interceptions within zone blitz schemes, which will further confuse opponents. The guys mentioned above have all gotten solid minutes, and have held their own. Hopefully, everyone stays fresh and healthy, and the group keeps on growing.

With us playing Wisconsin do the Bucks go back to he traditional 4-3 or continue with the current personale?

How about we go with.....

Heyward Dex Big Hank Simon

Ross Rolle Williams (Hand on the ground or up)
I was thinkin the same thing. Especially first and second down..

I like our depth along the DL. Having guys like Dex, Simon, Hankins, Goebel and Bellamy is going to help against Wisconsin's running game. They have some pretty big road graders, and so having fresh players rotating in and out will help over 4 quarters.

I was going to write a pretty long post about how impressed I was with the DL but I think this vid illustrates their play and the life of their opposing QB's better than my words could've.

Quite plainly, we really missed Big Thad this past weekend. The rotation of fresh bodies is a huge difference between this defensive line and last year's line. The depth isn't there in the same way it was last year.

Thad was such a huge cog to our defense. I know Duane Long has said that he thinks Nate Williams is a better player than Thad, but Nate's not quite there yet. He's a great player in his own right, but he is really allowed to showcase his skills as a pass rushing specialist.

Wisconsin was a very tough test for this line. The stars were aligned; Wisconsin's line was pissed off at being manhandled last year in the shoe. It was a night game. A different rotation of defensive bodies, a rotation with alot younger and smaller bodies. Plus, Wisconsin was absolutely comfortable playing ahead from the gun at home.
