Game Thread 2010 Rose Bowl: Ohio State 26 Oregon 17 (Final, 1/01/2010)

8. The big question in Duck world is whether Chip should have kicked the field goal. We all know of course down 2 scores with a chance to make it a 1 score game you have to kick. As important though is the preparation all year for the kick. If you're not using your kicker all year long then of course he's not going to be ready when the Rose Bowl is on the line. This is why JT doesn't hesitate to kick. JT ensures that his kickers know they can make a field goal in important situations. That's why you kick the field goal in the 1st quarter with the game on the line. Because at some point you will need your kicker. And he has to know he make the field goal.
I see a lot of Duck fans questioning this too...but...to me...it's a no brainer. You're down nine, there was still enough time on the clock to get the ball back if your defense can step up. You gotta get the points eventually, and while that was no gimme FG, it should have been very makeable.

The decision on whether to try for the FG is a tough one. On the one hand, it's only 4th and 1. On the other, your passing game sucks and you need to score points quickly. If htey get the 4th and 1, and score 7 with 2 minutes to go, that's not ideal.

I was leafing through the program at the game and I couldn't tell how good their kicker was. I didn't see many 40+ makes on the year.

At the end of the day, they needed 2 scores, and they really didn't have the passing game to pull that off quickly.

The decision to kick was a no-brainer. If you decide to go for it and provided that you convert, it could take another two minutes off the clock by the time you get the TD. Then you are looking at three minutes left in the game with two TO, which means one Buckeye first down would seal the game. If you kick it and make it, then with five minutes on the clock, chances of getting the ball back are much better. Again, no brainer.

Just thinking over the game the course of this whole (glorious) day.

Not sure if its me thinking this, but the little miscues and slight lack of focus on offense really prevented this game from turning into much larger victory.

Had Sanzo and Pryor been on the same page about the post-route late in the game, then its a touchdown. Posey's last touchdown was the exact same pattern he dropped his first TD pass on. If he keeps his hands on that, your looking at 2 TD victory.

I hate using the whole "had this happened" paticular argument. But I truly feel this game (especially with the defensive performance) was but a small play or two away from being a wide open Buckeye win.

I'll take it either way though

It continously feels good winning the Rose Bowl

As I said before the diehard Buckeye fans, players, Jim Tressel, the other coaches and the great state of Ohio deserved this win!

Next year we have the chance to do some very remarkable things.

THANK YOU JIM!

haha I mean I got the jab don't get me wrong. Just don't forget our recent struggles as well (outside of the Rosebowl) because we certainly could've represented the Big Ten much better as well (namely against Florida, and LSU).

So you got the fuckin' joke, yet still decided to be a dick and remind everyone of the BCS losses after a fucking Rose Bowl win?

Faster than a speeding bullet.

Look! Up in the sky!
It's a bird. It's a plane. It's Jake!

Yes, it's Jake Ballard - strange visitor from another planet who came to Earth with powers and abilities far beyond those of mortal men. Jake Ballard - who can change the course of mighty rivers, bend steel with his bare hands, and who, disguised as an average mild mannered tight end on the Ohio State Buckeye football team fights the never ending battle for Truth, Justice, and Winning the Rose Bowl.

I should have put the Michigan sentence in sarcasm font, apparently. Just taking a jab at our rivals. My point was that the Big 10 had not lost 10 straight Rose Bowls but only (still a lot) six in a row.

The Big Ten champ had dates in other games in three of those Rose Bowls. Not saying they would have won but the PAC 10 did NOT get the best of the Big Ten in three, plus there were three with no Big Ten representative. Acting like the Big Ten had lost 10 in a row is like the Oregon was 2-0 in games against top 10 teams this season. At the end of the season Oregon actually played 2 top 10 teams (Ohio State and Boise State) and lost to both of them.

What do you think #11 charges for those services? Not only does it look like he got the whole shaft down the throat he's cupping the sack, even threw in a little nipple play with the free hand.

#1 in back is great, "I got it"

He probably gave him a deal after the Pryor straight-arm that sent Pleasant(#11) to the ground early in the game.
