Game Thread 2010 Rose Bowl: Ohio State 26 Oregon 17 (Final, 1/01/2010)

"Well, the plan was to make him throw the ball," said Oregon defensive end Kenny Rowe, who sacked Pryor three times, tying a Rose Bowl record. "But when he threw it that good, the plan didn't go well."

I find it interesting that the reasoning, while true, seems to be almost an excuse in a lot of talks. The T.O.P stat, however, they had 4 drives that resulted in punts, and 16 plays to go, so it's not like they were firing on all cylanders. We played some of the worst kick return coverage I have seen, if that doesn't happen, I don't think this game is even close. The Defense got the ball back, the offense took care of it and made plays, we may have shortened the game for them, but their offense had opportunities it didn't make the best of.

If this is a vision of next season, I am thinking it's going to be a great year to watch.

For anyone who was at the game, how was the crowd? Seemed like Buckeye Nation was out in full force and we had just as many fans there as Oregon. Considering the distance each side had to travel that is a testiment to the OSU faithful.
We parked in the general lot on the golf course and it looked like the split was going to be something around 67% Oregon, 33% Ohio State. When we got in the stadium, we were pleasantly surprised that it definitely looked like an even 50/50 split.

I was sitting on the Oregon side on the 30 yard-line, so I couldn't really see what the makeup of fans was on the Oregon side, but it looked pretty even. It may have been that there happened to be a bunch of Buckeye fans in my section, but I really didn't hear Oregon's "Ooooo" that much or very loudly. I thought the "O! H! I! O!" was much louder.

Fuckin' A it's an excuse. The fucking Defense is being denied their recognition.

The crowd looked 60:40 for Oregon on Oregon's side. It looked 100% Buckeye on the other side. For some reason, the blimp shot kept showing the Oregon side, with a corner all yellow, then about 60:40 yellow to red.

After being there and then watching the game @ home after, I'm going to re-nig on my 45% Buckeyes, 40% Ducks and 15% locals/neutral fans estimate earlier and change it to 55% Buckeyes, 40% Ducks, and maybe 5% locals and neutral fans. Outside the stadium it looked as if Oregon would have the numbers advantage. There were more Ducks fans tailgaiting b/c I think more Duck fans drove. There were a lot more people from Ohio that flew in.

The OSU half was all scarlet and grey and @ the game it appeared the Oregon section was 95% yellow and green. We were 10 rows up in the corner of the OSU endzone (@ the "E" in OHIO STATE) and it was hard to see the breakdown of fans in the sections above us from our seats. But after watching the game @ home and seeing the blimp views, there were quite a few pockets of scarlet and grey on the oregon half of the field, especially down in front in the corner of the endzone where I was and @ the 5-10 yard line of Oregon's sideline. Great turnout. Great atmosphere.

On TV from the aerial shots it looked 55% Buckeyes and 45% Ducks. I also noticed they split the tailgating outside evenly.

I was surprised to see a lot of fans that weren't sporting either Duck or Buckeye gear (that's why I included the 5% local/neutral fans).

They were expecting over a million people @ the Rose Bowl Parade so maybe some people took in the parade and the game that were not OSU or Oregon fans but just wanted to see the game too.

I just got back....from that weird ass place you go when you are so sick you just wish you would get better or just fucking die. Holy god was I sick. I had the game on but was literally in and out of consciousness so much I didn't actually take much of it in.

In a nutshell from reading the recaps and such congrats to Tress for the game plan and congrats to TP for delivering the goods. I think the optimism for 2010 will be through the roof and for the first time in a long time be justified.

I'll post more later, this is the first time I've set up out of bed since Wednesday night. :(
